I do not get this Euro / Czech Nymphing. This is the way I have been Nymphing my whole life. This is how my father was taught and how he taught me. We just called it Nymphing. Over the years I have heard it called “High-Sticking” and then it was called “Shot-Dropping” Now it is called “Euro/Czech Nymphing” I find what works for me falls under two basic strategies your first is so called “Czech” which is the latest and the greatest if you believe that. But there is another technique that my father taught me that is less talked about and is also highly effective. I know that some of you old-timers like myself will agree. The second approach to Nymphing is a technique called swing drifting. This the same technique that a wet fly fishermen would use. Both techniques are highly effective and will produce fish. Just putting a new name on an old technique does not change anything.Perhaps the next thing it will be called “Grandmas Chin Hair Style of Nymphing” And remember heard it from Tomfly first. The fact is that both of these styles of Nymphing have been around as long as I can remember. But still the best technique for any style of fishing is find what works for you.

Well... Thanks, that oughta help the site out a little bit. Of course I feel the same way you do but there are new comers who couldn't tell you the difference between a nymph and a fetus.

I personally would never purchase a "how to" on euro nymphing but take a look at the trailer. Something has to be said for the energy it seems to create. I've seen some pretty sloppy documentation videos poorly slapped together in poor lighting. That's not this video! This one was done professionally. I purchased a copy just because I liked how it was produced and edited. It's also in HD which means to me, a super clean picture of some really nice streams.

To each his/her own.

I viewed the DVD Friday night after purchasing it from AJ at the show.

I have to say it is perhaps the finest how to fishing video I have ever watched.

Some might say I stated that because I consider AJ a friend, if it wasn't as good as I just stated
I would not have said anything.

That ain't no BULL SHIT either.

He covers the subject completely.

It may or may not be your style of fishing, but it is out there and if
you want to catch fish, and lots of them everytime out, then this
DVD is for you.

Wait, is there some sort of guarantee included?

You purchase the DVD, do a little practicing...

I will personally take you to a trout stream and video you catching 20 - 30 - 40 - 50 - 60 trout in half a day.

You will be begging me to let you come off the stream by lunch claiming your arms are tired and sore from
hauling them in, either that you will claim an knee injury and ask to be taken out of the ball game.

Either way, you will catch MUCHAS GRACIAS HOLA (thats spanish for lots of trout).

There's nothing "new" to Czech nymphing or Polish nymphing, or French nymphing, etc., it's just that anglers here in the US are only now beginning to realize the effectiveness of some of these varying styles. AJ is a great fly fishing historian as I've learned over the years and he's also a very good teacher. He can talk with authority on many different types of styles out there and, just like all of us, has developed some of his own styles. We are all influenced by each other and the internet age has finally allowed us to better share information on the sport we love. It was downright tough when I was a kid to get good information and I wound up learning from the school of hard knocks as so many here did as well. I think it's great that we have videos like AJ's to help us all learn and share ideas. The more we love to fly fish for trout, the more we'll protect the resource and that can only be a good thing!

Does anyone know what camera AJ and his crew used to make this DVD?? Wondering if it was shot with the new Canon XL2

While I agree the basics of flyfishing have stayed pretty much the same (physics is physics after all) the subtleties can make all the difference in the world. AJ does work hard on the finer points. Plus, I wonder how many people need to go over the basics since I see a whole lot of people just drifting nymphs hanging under a Thingamabobber.

Didn't buy the video, but watched it at his booth. The production values were excellent. I know AJ worked hard on it, but the look exceded my expectations.

Tomfly is right to a degree, but we should understand that Euro nymphing consists of various refinements to the basic dead-drift techniques we've been using for years. For example extra-long rods, longer leaders, new types of sighters and leader designs, and hot spots on nymphs are some that immediately come to mind. In short, it is my opinion that refinements such as those is what brings Euro nymphing into a class of its own. It is tweeked versions of the method we already know and use.

I've been "Euro" nymphing for over a year now and I still learned a lot from the video. As to the argument that this is common knowledge, you could say the same thing about every fishing video out there. We all (or most of us anyway) know how to cast, yet we still buy videos that tell us how to do it. If you don't want to buy the video then don't.

As posters above have commented, the quality of this video is superb as is the quality of instruction. Even experienced nymphers stand to gain from the subtleties that AJ conveys. Also the patterns in the fly tying section are interesting, innovative and effective. I definitely recommend the video to anyone interested in improving their nymphing game. If I hadn't already ordered one I would definitely buy it from NEFF and support DC and his efforts to give us a place to waste so much of our valuable time arguing over BS and discussing the addiction that brings us all together.

We all know how to do other things also, but some of you still buy porn??

I bought one for two reasons. 1. My cabin is off grid and runs off a gererator so i like to take DVD's to watch, and 2. It is helping to support this site

In the service I was lucky enough to send my people off to various schools, some were elementary courses even though a few had a bit more experience than what the course was about.

Each and every time when they would return from a school I would ALWAYS ask how was the course, who else was in it, and from where?

But I ALWAYS asked what they learned or got out of the course.

When some one would tell me they got nothing or didn't learn anything from the course I would go absolutely ballistic.

Senior Chief Minks taught me real early you can't learn with your mouth open, keep your eyes and ears open and mouth shut.

If you are open to learning, no matter what your experience level is, you will learn a lot more.

Dennis,

Are you going to let us know when the numbers get low for the dvd's? I get paid like welfare the 1st and the 15th.

WHOAAaaaaa there big fella.

You are in the serice of this country, away from home and family, doing your sworn duty.

There is a huge difference between collecting your pay and having your hand out in a welfare or unemployable line.

Granted, the difference is the dollar amount might be slight, but you worked and earned your pay.
