Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!

Hi everyone,

I just unleashed my fly fishing website and thought you might want to check it out. To visit, just click on the links below or paste the URLs into your browser.

Feel free to comment. It's a work in progress.

Take a look and let me know what you think!

Nice site Bruce,
Your flies always amaze me.
I didn't see any lady bugs on the site :)
Congrats.
Ron

Thanks Ron. I appreciate it. Glad you noticed the ladybug at the show. See you in January. I'm tying at Somerset and trying to think of something different to have ready. There's really nothing new, just packaged in a different way.

Cheers,
Bruce

Hey. Just realized that I hid one on the "Shop" page. The page is not ready to go yet so I just put up a placeholder. Kind of like "Where's Waldo" if you can find it :>).

Really enjoy the site, very nice! Just one note about your lovely Montana photos... it's the West Fork of the Bitterroot, not "Branch", that's mostly Easterner speak.

Thanks for the compliments! Much appreciated. It is a cool place for sure. I hear that West Yellowstone is snowed in for a change. Last week's newsletter from Blue Ribbon showed about 3 feet of snow in front of the shop.

Great pics, man! My grandfather owned the Darby store from the mid 50's to the mid 60's, and my mom used to help out with cleaning the cabins. I was out there a few months ago , andit didn't look like things had changed much!!

I just received some some rights clearances that I needed to get started on the Wally Wing tutorial. I'm trying to have it done in the next few weeks or so. Maybe sooner.

I've also livened up the "Store" link. Hopefully in time for some last minute holiday shopping. Sorry for the shameless self promotion...

Thanks very much. So how did you end up in Brooklyn? (70th st. and 19th Ave myself)
Grew up in Oregon, spent a little over 5 years in Michigan, then to NYC employment purposes, and been here ever since!

Just posted a new entry in the blog about a recent appraisal of a Darbee Cape...

Best,
Bruce
Hey Bruce, I enjoyed this blog entry. It shows that one mans junk is another mans treasure, and it looks like you found yourself a real treasure there! Good for you buddy. Take care of that thing.

Happy New Year everyone. I've just posted a new blog entry with some interesting hook reviews by Glenn Overton, of Overton's Wonder Wax fame. These were originally conducted by Glenn back in the 1980's and still relevant and interesting today.

Cheers,

Wally Wing Tutorial

I finally got all the permissions so the Wally Wing tutorial is up on the website in the blog section.

Thanks for checking it out.

Bruce, I attempted the wally wing style spinner last night that I saw from the tutorial on your site. I followed the instructions and the wings came out great at first, but I had trouble getting them in the proper "spent" position. When I attempted this the wings began to twist on me. If you wouldn't mind sharing on how to avoid this I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

Hey Rambler. Thanks for checking out the tutorial. Once the wing is split, I push them toward the bend from tie in point. I will then grab each wing separately with thumb and forefinger and pull or tease it down to the spent position. The next step if very important. When you figure eight the wings to set them, make sure you are holding each wing as you wind around it. It's also very important to make your figure eights at the very base of the tie in point. If you catch a small bit of the base of the feather, it will twist. So get right into the very base and hold the feather while tying each side. The feathers are not delicate once split so don't be afraid to pull them into position. If all else fails, and they do twist, grab each wing at the tie in point and give them a half twist either clockwise or counter clockwise as necessary. Once in the position you like, take a really small drop of super glue to the tie in point. It should be the smallest amount you can get on a bodkin to avoid leaching into the feathers. That should take care of it. Add the dubbing to create the thorax and you should be good to go.

Keep at it and try posting them up for a parachute or dun pattern. Again, unless you're using a very dry feather, the split wing in not really delicate so don't be afraid to maneuver and twist it until you get it where you need it to be.

Good luck,
Bruce C
