Here's my report;
Friday...meet Jim/Sun and his buddy Jim and we head to DSR. Was relatively empty early but people filtered in later. Was a slow start but other Jim had 3 on. We moved up and finally got into a push mid day. I went 3 for 4...dropped the one bc my fly line detached from the backing. I caught the line and tried to hand line it but it broke off. Jim and Jim locked down a lil bend above me and got into some good action.
Saturday...the squad rolls to upper fly. Me n sneel had a steady pick up dissecting a pool we had to ourselves. Moving around picked up a couple more bit it tapered off
Took off mid day to fish low river but it sucked...Jim stepped up his game and got some studs installed on the fly
We closed out Saturday on a stretch mid river, Snell went 1-2 but no other hook ups...
Sunday...decided to bite the bullet and hit lower fly w Lost and Sun. We got a good spot but the first light bite was slow. The Indy rig wasn't getting down enough or we couldn't get long enough drifts since we were packed in tight...decided to hook up a Czech type leader and do some slingin. Turned out to be very effective. Lots of hook ups, some beasts on, a few landed, busted my knees while falling face first chasing a fish. Jim Sun had several hook ups, Lost didn't find himself yet.

Agreed. Pics are rad. I think I saw you in the UFZ rockin the gopro on Monday morning???
I had some hookups, but didn’t get into any fish until the last hour of the trip. I got to the UFZ at around 3:30 Monday evening. Spent 20 minutes dialing it in and got a bruiser male. I didn’t have a net and after my third attempt at tailing the thing it broke me off. I touched it twice – SO IT COUNTS. First steelhead EVER. Don’t rob me of this one. Either way, I’m rebuilding my rig below the swivel and I rig up just like before. I’m ready to go and I’m feeding line into the riffle below me just so I can make my first cast. When I go to make my cast, I feel some pressure on the line. Sure enough, I’ve got a fish on. Reeled in a nice 13” rainbow. LOL. So now I have supreme confidence in my bead color (iridescent tangerine I think..???) and all the guys on the other side of the stream start changing flies. Took another 20 casts, but eventually got into another – bringing this one to hand. No pics – my phone charger is a puppy snack, in the past tense… But I did manage to snap this one earlier in the day.
Either way, I’m totally hooked. Steelhead are awesome. I came into this thing with no confidence, and it felt really good to get into fish when other people were not. Probably be going back at least twice before spring, so get at me if you wanna join up. I can furnish some babes to babysit our dogs..

A steelhead by definition is an anadromous fish. Yes, genetically a steelhead and a rainbow are the same fish, but life cycle wise they are totally different.
In reality the fish you caught is just a stocked lake run rainbow. Real steelhead spend a duration of their life in the ocean.

lol. some jackass at the shop in altmar was helping me get setup and he kept talking about swivels so i just went with it. honestly, it was kinda nice. every time i got hung up I only needed to tie two knots instead of fucking 5.
for the record i'm an expert on all knotts.
oh yeah, and maybe i mistook a headlamp for a gopro?? whatev.
i did meet that retriever pup though, they were running around all morning.

Just got home.
Had a great time meetin everybody and getting schooled by some of the up and coming NEFF steelhead pros.
Dons a maniac fly fisherman! That kid will literally run from hole to hole or run to run to get on fish. Me n lost watched him jump into a spot two guys just worked over not a minute before ( 1 was me) and rip a slab outta the water that put on an awesome freak out before poppin the hook.
Phil is the most chill dude your ever gonna meet, and fuck can he fish. He ran that pool in the LFZ from dawn till dusk CONSISTENTLY hooked up when NOONE else near us saw virtually ANY action at all. Very impressed.
Everyone there knew their shit and offered up loads of advice and backed it up on the water.
