UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok guys, the 1st Annual NEFF STEELHEAD BASH is quickly approaching and its time for a huge update.

First and foremost, the river IS low. However dont be discouraged, there is TONS of steelhead throughout the river, ready to gobbling your offerings. I floated 2a to Ballpark on Saturday and rode over THOUSANDS os chrome, I kid you not. Unfortunately, most has lock jaw due to theconstant swing in water temps and PEOPLE, TONS OF PEOPLE. Have no fear, I still got into fish, but it was a touch harder. Upper river is holding the most fish, however, its housing the most goons too.

So, back to the point, floating for the bash is going to be a last minute decision. There is NO way I will float 2a to ballpark until we get more water, and I will NOT float from Pineville to 2a. Water is just too skinny to make it worthwhile. It's not enjoyable getting out every hundred yards to hump the boat over a shallow section. My raft only drafts a few inches of water, I dont want to imagine the dragging one would need to do with a drift boat.

That said, Altmar-Pineville IS very dooable. Sure, it's going to be a bit bumpy, there is no question, however the upper end of the river is MUCH deeper throughout then MID-LOWER. I will most likely be floating Altmar-Pineville if anyone would like to brave the skinny water with me. THose with drift boats that plan on bringing them, feel free, but I want to tell you know your ride wont be rock free...
First and foremost, there is nothing worse than arriving at an event and hunting people down. It makes you want to pack up and leave. I myself will be arriving Thursday night so I will be ready to roll and serve breakfast Friday morning. A good meeting place would be at Dennis’s at 5:30am (I hope you don’t mind Dennis, J ). TO get to Dennis’s lodge pull into Stoney’s and where the road splits, huck a left. You can’t miss my truck. This provides a central locale, as you would have the option to head up or down. As far as floating, I can only take 1 passenger. However, regarding the rest of the gang, I will direct those to areas in which fish are being caught (depending on water levels). I have floated the river many times this season and have buddies that are guides on the river. BY Friday morning, I will have the scoop on where to send people. Having been there this weekend, I already know where to send people. However, heavy rains and cold temps could change that. What is beautiful about this time of year is fish are spread TOP TO BOTTOM, with fresh fish coming in daily. Chrome/browns are also in all types of water making for a fun day!
Breakfast will be heated on a BBQ and bagels cream cheese will be left in my cooler. So those arriving after breakfast, but before lunch, stop by Dennis’s to grab a bite to eat!
. We will be doing lunch and dinner at Dennis’s place as well, as he has the perfect setup, a canopy/roof! Lunch will be at 11:30am sharp. This makes it easy. SO, those of you who are bringing the burgers and dogs, make sure you’re not late ;)This will allow ample fishing time b4 and after lunch. It also provide a perfect opportunity to compare notes and see which areas are fishing the best.
Dinner will be at 530pm on, as sunset is 447pm on Friday the 11[SUP]th[/SUP]… Dark will quickly descend on us, however I am sure Dennis has some sort of lighting. Regardless, the fire will be going, beers will be tilted, and the grills will be going. Dark or not, were going to EAT and have a good time! Having lunch and dinner times set in stone makes planning the day easier.
Breakfast will be held at 5:30am on Friday/Saturday/Sunday and I will take care of the breakfast. Get ready for the best casserole in your LIFE! I will also provide the OJ! Can NOT start the day without OJ! While you might think 5:30am is a bit early, it is not as we all know how much we all like to bullshit. So by the time we eat, shoot the sheet, and direct folks to fishing spots, prime fishing time will be quickly upon us!
So, those of you arriving in between times of breakfast/lunch/ or dinner, just find some water and fish. Before I leave on Thursday, I will post a list of areas in which is seeing the best action for those arriving in between meeting times. Again, there are fish ALL OVER so locating fish will not be a problem!
I am going to be calling Dennis tomorrow sometime to iron out final details and see what the lighting and grill situation is. I may need someone to bring a grill up. If it’s a problem, I can probably snag a grill my a friend up there, IF he is there…We will see.
My cell is 862#268#0321 if anyone needs to contact me!!!!! (dennis, shoot me a text or call me) (I mean the AK SKIM dennis, not the sheep molester Dennis)
I will update again TONIGHT!

I'll take care of the fire wood, grill tools, paper towels/plates, plastic flat ware.
I'll even bring up a small refrigerator because I see we will need it.

I was going to head up there directly from Washington on Wed/Thur, but one member of the party is not able to make it now, so GB and I were planning on departing NJ at 0630 on Friday, but we maybe departing maybe much much eariler than planned, we just have to work it out.

Don't forget to bring a folding chair or two.

Dress warm brothers.

I have bad news fellas. It doesn't look like I will be making it to the bash. This really stinks as I was looking forward to meeting the group of you. Hopefully I can make "Steelhead Bash 2".

As an FYI - we hit the DSR last week for 4 days. On Friday and Saturday, we out-fished the bait guys 5 to 1. The chromers (and I mean bright chrome) were not interested in big egg sacks floating buy them. They were eating dead drifted single egg patterns. I also caught the brown in my avatar with the same presentation. The most productive fly for the trip was the Salmon River Flea in the colors of bright orange and oregon cheese. Senyo's Laser dub in white makes for great vale for this pattern.

Good luck and I know you guys will have a great time. You have done a spectacular job organizing this Chris. We will meet up some time, it's bound to happen. Sorry I can't make it.

eric,

That is a damn shame! Well, hopefully it works out and can make it. However if not, im sure we will drown some flies together on the salmon or deerfield in the upcoming weeks sometime.

Dennis, that sounds perfect.

Alsoooooooo, do we have someone that can bring a grill? If not I can try to snag one from my buddies camp.

Simms, when you say you're gonna "snag" a grill, do you mean that your gonna cast a line pegged with beads an inch or two from a hook?

You gonna floss that grill?

Hmm single egg patterns.... I hope all the sucker spawns im tying arent in vain. They do imitate an egg sack very well.

Me and Beeber are leaving Thursday night, crash somewhere around Syracuse/close by, so we can get to the river Friday morning.
I'll be in with the float crew on Friday...I'll follow up with Beebs as it sounds like he knows the plan.
It looks like we have some gaps to fill on the "list"...I'm willing to help out wherever needed. Maybe we should have a "final list" for Thursday.

Let me know if you like smokey or peaty scotch, I have a bottle of Lagavulin and Laphroaig (15 or 18 yr cant remember) and I can bring some. It doesn't bother me if you don't like the smoke or the peat, just don't drink it and bitch about it. I also have some highlands stuff. Space is going to be limited so I don't know if I can bring too much...

Space is infinite, sir. Bring however much you want!

Ill have final list wed...burgers/dogs/condiments are always a good choice...or w/e...

And of course regarding the scotch. I will bring the snifter glasses

Phil, there is always room in my car for scotch! I will be bringing mini turkey and cheese sandwiches instead of turkey legs. The homebrew is Steeltoberfest, an octoberfest style beer that turned out mighty tasty. I'll have a few rolls of paper towels too, as long as they aren't taking up room for potential scotch that is.

Phil and I plan to head out at 8 pm on thursday, drive for 3 hours, lay up for the night between Binghamton and Cortland and arrive sometime early friday. We will be joined by Brough and his friend Dennis, who plan to arrive mid-day friday. We'll all be staying in the bunkhouse at Stoney's.

Thanks for the info Lynch I will be tying up some SR fleas tonight.

Here's where I stand.

I need clearance from ny wife to leave Thursday night.

If I don't get clearance, I can leave Friday am at 6:30.

But I will be there.

Look forward to it guys. Weather looks like its taking a severe turn from today. Apologies to anyone looking forward to a ride down the river in my DB - its too low, and I don't really want to deal with dragging or BS from profiteers or people standing where the fish are. See you this weekend.

Should be up sometime early Friday afternoon. I'll be packing some pulled BBQ pork for the pot luck and anything else I can throw together. I'll catch up with you guy's after I open up camp.

I will be up early friday morning staying at stonie's and will stop there first.
will have Ronbo hot wings and some teriyaki pineapple beef shish kabob's for the grill.
No homebrew this time but I see beber got that covered.
Plenty of hot sauce and beer to go around:)
See you guys there !!!

Good luck bro.

Thank you sir.

Well boys, my buddy just Texted me from the boat and the river is packed tighter than a fricken sardine can. Luckily, rain/snow is scheduled for friday which should keep some of the fishermen inside. Fortunately, despite the crowds, fish are at every spot, so finding fish is not a problem. Getting them to inhale offerings is another story. Also, 96% of the people on the river are internet trolling goons by night, cooler carrying Neanderthals by day, therefore, fly zones and lower river will be much less crowded, if not, empty. Everyone thinks the only fish are from pineville up, which works for me!

My pops, uncle, and their good friend will be joining me at the bash for lunch or dinner or w/e...my dad would sleep streamside if he could, so pulling him off the river for breakfast and lunch is going to be a difficult task. Lol

I hope you all have a safe trip up and ill see you at the crack of dark on friday at 5/530....

Alsooooooooo, im coming over from mass, so if anyone wants to tag along with me, make the trip easier on the wallet in terms of fuel, contact me Tonight!

Thank you! Tight lines!

This is the best post yet for the steelhead bash.

I can't wait to see you there, Ron!

A pm is on the way.

fly zones will be far from empty lets be honest here....but I'm not a fan of fishing up there once the fish are in the river anyway....lower river it is

I am fascinated by the SR culture...

I dont understand this post entirely, but hope to get it after this weekend...

Looking forward to meeting new friends and building on old ones.

Best.

its an addiction GB get ready.....being strictly a trout fisherman prior to steelheading, there was something amazingly impressive to me about seeing a 10lb + fish jump out of a 2 ft deep riffle attached to the end of your line. Its incredible you're gunna love it.
