From what I have read, it's been there since the 80’s. I first heard about Islamberg back around 2003 from a local resident in Deposit - a retired army sniper, the kind that can hit a target from like a mile away. He told me about the camp with the guarded entrance, men with machine guns in camp & etc. and he went on to say how the FBI was watching the place, (this was only two years after 9/11) and so on. He also said the women are seen around town but usually the men remain up in camp. At first I kind of thought he was pulling my leg, and then one day I did a double take when I saw women in Burkas in the Deposit grocery store. After that I looked around on the net and came across some of the same articles. Now on the other hand, in 2006 after the big flood, the residents of Islamberg came down to help out the residents of Deposit, and there are camps of many religions in the area – Jewish, Christian, etc. I believe Islamberg is up off of Roods Creek Rd. - off Rt. 17 by the abandoned diner across from Monument Pool. If the terrorist training camp stories have even some truth to them, it is scary that it is VERY close to Cannonsville Reservoir - as we all know, one of the major sources of drinking water for NYC.
