What ever happened to spring?

I was planning on heading out to State college to see my daughter at Penn State and maybe, just maybe able to make my way down to Spring Creek and wet a line on Saturday.

So I been following the weather there and this morning it is;

It is not trout season.. it is STEELHEAD season out there still.

Spring Creek is running a bit high, so I guess I can forget the DRY FLY action.

If I could only talk Aaron Jasper to go out there.. Euro-style nymphing just might save the day!

Have the RRTU fly tying get together tonight, I think I will pick Aaron's brain and come home and review his Euro-Nymphing DVD again.

Spring is not around my neck of the woods, thats for sure.
Snow, fishing, and baseball, not a good mix.

a real man fishes in any weather. Fish still gotta eat. use a streamer. Come on take off your panties and put on your waders Alice!

No need to drive to PA to see it snow, it's snowing plenty here in western Morris right now.....5"-10" by tomorrow some time.

stop with the exaggerations, if you get a half inch i will be surprised. Toughen up Mary:)

stop with the exaggerations

Try 5 to 6 inches or maybe even 3 feet of snow... maybe.. yeah maybe.

Let's face it, the bears just came out of their migration routes to settle in for the spring and summer in North Central PA.

This is when all the bear attacks in that area start. So you don't want to be running in snow if you know what I mean.

AK I'm heading to my alma mater this weekend too Gonna try to hit that magical little wilderness stream Sat morning that can be found by traversing the dirt road for 6 miles off of the Mile Run exit on I-80. Always enjoy fishing that place in high water.

Will you be working between the two bridges then, down from the picnic area?

Sunday morning I just might swing by.... in LOW 4x4.....

yes definitely. I traditionally start at the 4th gap cabin and work my way down stream and then back up again. great water and deep pools at every bend

... work my way down stream ...

You know down stream of that where the road gets away from the creek....

I bet very few fisherman ever take the hike to fish it.

I am always afraid to run into a wild pack of bears... but someday if have someone
to carry the shot gun I would really like to make my way down there.

Bears dont Migrate. They are not elk and this is not the Rockies. LOL ohh you city guys kill me

I've only seen a bear there once actually in probably 100+ times fishing the creek. I was rigging up at 4th gap when I saw him wandering up from the creek about 50 yards away. He obviously saw/heard me, but never changed his path in the slightest bit, and vanished into the woods above

That is also a reason why I love fishing there so much.

Unfortunately no fishing for me this weekend. I tried to make it work, but just not in the cards, however...

I have 4 vacation days that expire by june if i don't use them. An early May trip to central PA is in the books. Penns, Spring, FC Narrows and a first trip to the Little J are on the agenda. I most certainly will be spending some time at that little stream that flows past the 4th gap cabin as well. I will take some pics of the stretch from 4th gap to the bridge below and show you what still keeps me coming back to this place.

Made it out to State College this past weekend as planned.

Flat Stanley has been here before.

Nothing like a good camp fire and friends after being on the creek.

Couldn't have asked for a better day to be there.
