West and main stem Delaware in November.

I have had this exact problem, especially in some fast water sections of Western rivers, where the fish will just keep trying to drop further and further downstream from the pool into the riffles and beyond. A Colorado guide gave me a fantastic tip for this. If the fish is running downstream...

    Barbless hooks

If you really want to go the barbless route and dont mind buying some new hooks, I like the Dohiku barbless. The points angle into the eye of the hook ever so slightly, and therefore catch and hold in the jaw better. Theyre also razor sharp. Much better then the wide gape hook with the barbs...

    Cuthroat leaders...

"there are always pros and cons" This is true, but there in my mind are more cons. You have to remember, that they will pick up dirt and pollen quickly, and once they do, they will sink like a stone. Also, they spray when you throw them, so you get mist droplets hitting the water when they...

    Atlantic Salmon Where are ya

New Hampshire stocks Atlantic into a few places on the Pemigewasset and Merrimack Rivers. Its a 5 hour drive, but thats the best chance I know of. If you want details, I can PM you good spots.

    north branch raritan

I fished the north branch for an hour last Sunday night. The river is low and warm. It was 69 degrees at 8:30pm in Far Hills. This is a waste of time. Does Peapack brook hold its temperature during the summer months?

    SBR Conditions for today 6/2

I fished the SBR above Califon on Saturday evening at about 300 cfs. Believe it or not, there was Cahills and Sulphers coming off. While there were a few takers, not nearly enough to warrant dries. I fished a #6 white cone head bugger with flash. I brought 5 to net and missed many more...

    River Etiquette?

"However, on Sunday I was fishing a stretch of the Ramapo that had no other anglers. I was fortunate to come across several rising trout. I worked my way upstream slowly as to not spook the trout and about 30 feet away started to tie on a dry fly when I noticed another fisherman who was walking...

    Great hatch on the musky.

At times like that I find that emergers are the ticket. I would have tried a PT emerger (like the one I used the night I ran into you) and if that didnt work, a LaFontaine caddis pupa emerger. Did you happen to notice if they were slurping or just rising?

How's the gorge been fishing the past week.

For a BWO, its hard to beat a #20 Pheasant tail emerger. Its basically a PT with a hackle collar. I fished this on a WTS last week, in the surface film and did well.

    Sliced fly line

When trying to remove a tangle last weekend, I tightened the leader and sliced through the outer vinyl/plastic coating on the line right down to the braided core. The cut is 360, or close to it. Its too far down the shooting head to cut and re-loop. The line still throws well, but I imagine...

    Stay off the private rivers!

This argument is a waste of energy. The same people who own the land are the same people with the big bucks. They use those big bucks to influence politicians who need their donations. The politicians do their bidding or risk getting cut off. There would need to be quite a few more like...

    Musconetcong Fish

I met PortMurray on the Musky last night (6/5) to try to turn a few fish. The fish werent looking at dries, just emergers. I took two on pheasant tail emergers and one on a sulpher emerger. I basically looked for the tailsplash and threw the flies a few feet in front of the spot, mended...

    NJ Fall Stocking schedule

IMHO, this truck chasing behavior is akin to canned hunts. Gross and unsportmanlike.

    SBR yesterday?

Ill be fishing the evening hatch tonight. Anyone out last night? With the cooler weather, have the sulphers been coming off?

    Peckman River Info

Anyone ever tried their luck in the Peckman River in Cedar Grove? It looks like it could support Trout and was privately stocked some years ago. I saw a guy catching what seemed to be dace.

    Rahway river

Im no pro, but my guess is that these "Rainbows" are actually Dace or chubbs. Ive been to that area in summer and I just cant see how they would hold over.

    fall stocking

"All fall-stocked waters may be fished as soon as they are stocked" This is a very stupid idea considering the mentality of many in New Jersey. Ive heard horror stories about this, but never fish that day to find out for sure.

    klg advice

My advice is to get the fastest 5 weight you can afford. The St Croix Legend Elite os a great rod for the $ and a few hundred cheaper than Sage, Scott, etc. Then go and overwieght (or should I say weight the rod corrcetly according to grain size) with a 6 weight line. That way you get both...
