The Undertaker

PRomano

Fishizzle, I never use worms!
Here's my first attempt at tying an Undertaker. It's also my first pattern tied on a double salmon hook. I found it easier to ty on a double because of the flat surface created by doubling back of the iron. Keep in mind if you wish to ty a few of these for Steelhead, doubles are not legal on the Great Lakes tributaries.

The green and red floss butt is a little to large thus making the peacock body a little too small for this size fly. Otherwise I'm happy with how it turned out. :)

Hook - Gaelic Supreme low water double
Tag - medium oval gold tinsel
Butt - bright green and red floss
Body - Peacock herl
Rib - Oval gold tinsel
Throat - Black hen neck
Wing - Black Bear
Eye's - Jungle cock

PRomano, you are a good fly tyer.

I will say that.

Send a couple over to me.

I've sent you a PM with my mailing address.

PR,
the fly is very nice, one thing when doing heads on flies try to keep your heads smaller,Imagine two parallel lines that measure the hook eye vertically in your vice jaws, then take that measurement an lave that much room behind your eye, start any tie from that point {an eye's length back} and try to finishat that point leaving that lil space for the head.I really like the double hook look, will have to tie some up.what size double is this?
Keep up the great work you are on the right path!

Thanks Rick. I try hard to keep the heads small and leave space behind the hook. In this case I let the hearl pile up a too much. That fly pictured is a size 8. I'm tying them in sizes 6 through 12. Double hooks give you a bit more weight to get the fly down but more importantly a double hook gives the fly better balance thus the fly rides straighter.

I love undertakers. All of your flies look really good.Hope you get some tugs on them when you go in the fall.
