So what do you all say now?

Perfect flows, temps and bugs on the rivers.

Natural flow and FFMP releases have created cool temps well down the mainstem and the fishing has been quite good.

The sulphurs everyone thought were gone are hatching in profusion on the West Branch.

Fish are coming up and big fish too!!

Fishs Eddy and Lordville in the low sixties, even callicoon has managed to stay below 70 degrees.

Hope you have all been fishing!!!

Jim,
You know as well as anyone that this has been a fluke year. I have some pictures that I would like you to see that will curl your hair, then tell me the river isnt in trouble. PM me your email address. They need to renew the Filtaration Avoidance Certificate in 2017,
I dont think it's going to be the illegal cakewalk it was like last time.

Hi Brachy,

Just post them here. If there are problems, the best way to get a solution is to get more people involved.

Actually Jim, because of your extensive knowledge, you will be asked for guidance regarding an ongoing study and your past efforts regarding the tribs.

This is not a fluke year at all, the past several July's have fished well in my experience! Light and day better than ten years ago. I have a drift boat and there was not one day the WB was I floatable.

Talking about air temps and subsequent effects on the river temps, not volume. And you could not float down to Buckingham last July as you now can because of water temps., thats what I meant as a fluke year.
I guide here, have for the last 21 years. Well aware of present and past conditions.
So, I can safely assume that you think the health of the river and fishery are in good shape ?

One example would be a clear increase and healthy population of rainbows in the upper main stem! I don't have any science to prove it other than my own experience and feedback from folks I trust.

I would agree that the bows seems to be back. I think we lost two years of bows after the floods due to reduced trib access but they have cleared enough now that the bows have definitely come back. By my reference to a fluke year, I was referring to the cool summer we have had thus far. Actually leaving now to meet DEC and others to look at some of the problems I've seen on the upper WB. Enjoy the fluke year.

Hi Beetle,

While on the Rivermaster page make sure to go to the bottom and open the "OST Summary Data" link. It is interesting stuff, especially if you are sick like me! Gives you the way that NY makes release quantity decisions.

If you have any questions, I would be glad to try to answer them.
