It used to be fisherman kept their fish and showed everyone the actual size of their fish.

Then... with the advent of catch and release, fisherman "told stories" about the size of their catch as they would release their fish.

Then with the advent of cheap portable cameras... fisherman once again were realitvely honest in reporting the size of fish (of course they held them out at arms lenght in front of them to make them look bigger}.

Now with cheap and powerful digital cameras and software we can "tell fish stories" again and illustrate them with digitally modified pics.

Life is good again!:dizzy:

The only thing I modified in this photo was:
  • took the finger prints that Ralph left on the fish off
  • Removed the blood and holes he left in the fish's lip.
Other than that, Ralph did a great job.

What about the bread crumbs from folling it around on the bank?

Nice fish Ralph dont pay any atention to NJFreds coment. I attribute it to fish envy remeber what Ice T said one "dont hate the player hate the game"..

now who cant translate that to Latin?

All that smack about flies being small fish bait gotcha motivated dint it now....

That is a beautiful fish, great colors. Jealous......

Operor haud abominar ludio laudus, operor abominar venatas.:)

Now is that a nymph, streamer, or spawn pattern fish, or is such a direct question bad etiquette.

Big Streamer.

Did not see one fish rise.

To answer everyones question, the fish measured 20 inch's on the nose. However in 5000 cfs he fought ( was dragged ) like a much bigger fish.

Yes AK it was a 5 wt, but it was an unintentional foul. Last month I sent back an old reddington 6 wt rod that was always my streamer rod ( that they replaced no charge ) I have only fished it once since I had it, and never really inspected it until after I caught this fishand thought, geez thats a whimpy 6 wt. Well it's a 5 wt. Good thing I'm not a Dr. in the delevery room.

I have zero talent or ability to chop shop photo's, nor do I think that Mr. C messed with this one, I think it was just one of those angles that made the fish look huge.

I have the hands of a six year old boy thats built like a 4 year old girl so perhaps thats why fish looks larger.

Since I usually get tortured for posting my stretched out arm photo, and have my measurments questioned ( even by first hand amnesic witness) I decided I would let the viewing audiance be the judge on this one.

Now, If I saw this version of the same fish pic, I would guess this fish at 18 inch's. I should have stretched my arms out farther!

It's still one beautiful fish bud...even with the alligator arm pose :dizzy:

Big fish, small fish, its a fish and one of only a handfull that I heard were caught on streamers Sunday...and released to swim another day.

I just have one question Mr. Ford... Why is it, almost every photo you post, you seem to be missing your little finger?

The "Dr" says its called Pinkiesk Pesceanuz Fetisficus, and that there is a cure but it involves ruffies and an overnight stay at a minimum security county incarceration facility!

gotta say... sweet fish. kinda gets everyone a little green w/ envy. makes me think i have to try harder.:)

Ralph... Hope you did not take my comments the wrong way! I was joking around. It was a nice fish. The picture was great! I will say the fish looks really huge in the picture. Much bigger than 20 inches.

For me... 18, 19, 20 and 21 inchers are all great fish up there. Folks get way too crazy about fish size. A nice fish is a nice fish.

Anyway congrats and many, many more this year!

Fred,

I am a shameless pig, when it comes to boasting about " bigger fish ", because that is the game I am playing most of the time re: " big streamers = big fish " as per the solid fishing advice of an old Abbot and Costello routine.

One of the reasons I posted that picture first instead of the usual johnny long arms with an official "Taped Measurement" was beacuse it looked so much bigger than it was and I figured it would add to peoples mass hysteria allowing their imaginations to run wild guestimating the size of fish.

You certainly got my goat a bit with your comment, as at the end of the day I consider myself an honest guy is thats possible in the world of " fish stories",
but I was asking for it! No hard feelings.

As I said, I thought it was an 18 inch fish till I measured it at 20 and was surprised. The pic of me holding its was only at 50 % Bursitus maximus, so it was a " fair " perspective of true size. Too close , too small, too far too big, half way, just right!

As they said in math class, liars figure and figures lie!

Ralph

With the new photo, that fish has been downgraded from looking like 28 inches to something probably a hair over 17. Either way, great fish.

No matter what angle the picture was taken at it doesn't matter. That is a great fish. I am still dreaming of one like that.
