Is NEFF offensive survey...

NEFF has picked up quite a bit over the past few months. I don't know about you but I'm thanking God for bringing us Catskill Mountain man.

In all seriousness... A few questions to ask.

1. Have you observed anything overly offensive (ball busting doesn't count)
2. Have you seen any porn (would you like to? :))
3. Other than myself, please list your 5 least favorite users starting with FF and Golden Beetle.
4. Please list your top 5 favorite posters other than myself and CMM.

We have a handful of guides on this site. Joe D (Previously Orvis' top dog), Rusty Spinner, Aaron Jasper, Tony Ritter, The Delaware River Club, Brachycentrus, and others. I know all of these guides have been used by people of this site. For the newer users, would you have a problem hiring a guide from this site? For anyone else who may have already employed one of these guides / outfitters, would you consider using them again?

Although we don't allow porn here, someone (may have even been me) posted a calendar which included partially nude women holding large exotic fish (this is permitted). Occasionally religion makes it into the threads to keep things interesting (and they do get interesting).

The bottom line here is... I think everyone is very respectful of each other and can handle the ball busting just fine.

The purpose of this? I recently received an email explaining that some offensive material is on this site, possibly scaring people away from certain products. Would you stop buying a product from a vendor because of something someone said in a forum?

Just looking for some opinions of how you think the site has been run and what you might change (again).

What is wrong with people? No complaints and I can't be offended. Was the email from the Jack Johnson guide service in Alaska that Tobias reviewed?

under my steady hand, NEFF has rebounded to a small fraction of its former glory ( You are welcome) Seriously I think everything has been running fine. If there was a complaint i think you have to find out what exactly it was they found offensive. I cant think of anything I have seen.
 
I'm sure you don't want to tell us who sent the email, but can you at least let us know if it was from a vendor/ sponsor? Or, was it just some anonymous over sensitive individual who probably drives a baby blue prius with a "I love obamacare" sticker on the back?


You can't please everyone, and just because someone said something "offensive" (many people get offended much easier than others) on a forum on the interwebs, would not stop me from purchasing something or hiring a guide for a day or two who associate with said forum.



With that said, I think the anonymous emailer should PM me so we can have a discussion about their emotions. Maybe we can meet up and I can provide them with a hug or two so they feel better about NEFF.
 
More breastesse's (of the female, not man-boob variety) is fine by me. Will have to get back on the top 5 and such when I get to a real keyboard.

I consider this a great success!!!!!!

Nothing wrong with the site.....but I do remember a recent post about counting and potatoes that some may find offensive...not me....

Yes who sent the e-mail, inquiring minds want to know......

Every once in a while, the site has veered a bit too far in one direction or the other. But so have every other forum (fishing and hunting) I've been on. It has a good vibe lately. I can't say I recall being personally offended ever, but I have probably felt a few times that others might be. Can't think of an example lately.

And lastly, Grobert needs to be banned (he didn't offer me any of his Scotch at the show because he was too busy with idiots asking him how to tie a green weenie, I think).

He didn't offer you any Scotch?!?! It was probably the cheap stuff anyways. I only keep 18 year or older in my flask while I'm fishing. It makes me feel sophisticated while I throw a plastic bead with my bamboo rod.

5. AKskim: Him and I used to butt heads but now later in life I see him for who he really was, just a guy having fun with his peers online. I wish him all the luck.

I don't see it!
The recent run on NEFF may be the most informative and yet civil in a long time.
There is still humor and ball busting, but nothing even close to days of old!
While the drunken rants and brutal fighting was somewhat entertaining we now
have evolved to a kinder, gentler, machine gun hand.

I've never actually been offended on this site. If you are ofended by the dumb things people say on this site (i.e the remark about the prius and obamacare), then you should probably just steer clear of the internet as a whole.

As far as favorite members - Rusty is a pretty insightful guy and BHC ties great flies and I've tied a few patterns with his help. TT is always good for a laugh.

Least favorite users - I want to say GB and CMM, but I wouldnt really mean it. NJangler doesnt post here much but I cant stand that treble hook using douche.
 
I always like to read what GB, FF, CMM, BHC, Moosekid, Joe D and DC have to say. Oh yeah and Brk Trt. That guy rules -where's he been? One of those Trout monikered guys is funny. Or maybe all of them. I get them confused. What is a Trouser Nazi anyway? Sounds inconvenient. WBDluver's funny as hell.

As for offensive, not gonna lie, there are a couple times when I came here for fishing info and found a bunch of racist bullshit here instead. Never been personally offended by that, but I can totally understand how somebody would be.

But, as a general rule, 95% of what people post here falls in the category of good fun. not sure DC or Macfly really needs to play policeman, especially for the sake of somebody wanting to "promote products." What if I'm offended by their products?

(by the way, if it's some asshole wanting to market $800 fly rods that fish like $100 fly rods, I'm offended by their products.)
 
Some of my favorite NEFFers are actually non-posters but who lurk often and then either call, email or text me with very funny things that others don't get to see :)

But I also have lots of friends that do post here and I get a kick out of most of the current regulars, if not all. One interesting thing I've noticed is that Facebook seems to compete with fishing forums but not so much with hunting forums. I credit that to hunting being more of a blood sport as most here practice mostly C&R while you don't get to release that deer/bear/turkey/etc. and many of us are squeamish about posting a dead, bloody animal on Facebook realizing most of our friends and family don't hunt and may be offended. More or less all of my fishing buddies on Facebook routinely post about their fishing adventures but very few do about their hunting adventures, myself included.

But the site is flourishing under my rule. Yes I had to break you in the process but there's no need to be bitter. You are welcome as long as you continue to behave :)
 
I think a casual user who stumbles onto the site and reads some of the stuff posted could be shocked and decide the site isn't for them. Lets face it, you can offend anyone with anything nowadays. It doesn't matter how tame someone else thinks a topic is....

That said, those who decide to wait it out and lurk, occasionally post a question, and/or become an 'active member' (I don't claim to be the latter - more like the former) realize the site for what it is: an outlet for entertainment based on fishing. What may seem cruel and offensive is actually some good natured ball busting with some information, stories, and experience thrown in.

I also find it interesting as you start getting the personalities behind some of the usernames. If someone posts on a controversial topic or odd experience, it's like "Here we go!" - and you can almost predict who will post a sarcastic, funny, informational, offensive, or supportive reply.

Is NEFF offensive? Perhaps to some, but that also makes it fun. Personally, I don't find it too rough. If someone decides that their product or service shouldn't be advertised here, that's their prerogative but they would be missing out on a group of idiots who do like to fish and would provide honest feedback.

Lots of fishing and hunting sites a heck of a lot more offensive at all times than NEFF. Some sites are pure bashing, others pure informational exchange and this one somewhere right up the middle with a good mix of both.
