Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!

How's the gorge been fishing the past week.

The Gorge is HIGH but fishable -- Small BWO and small hares ears sholud work well -- I live 2 miles from there so I have first hand account of it

Dry Thet hatch sporatically during the day -- When I say Small though I mean Small 16-22 Once in a while they will rise to them it all depends on if the water warms up during the day

Good Luck

A kid's attempt at saying "bro" with a speech impediment. Instead of "bro" it sounds like he is saying "bwo."

Daaaang bwo! He got over on you!

Could also double over as YOU trying to say "Bro" with a handful of beads in your mouth...

Top secret midge? Is that an actual fly or is it one of your special flies u created?

Flies are relatively unimportant, especially in pocket water like the Gorge. Go low and slow and use small flies this time of year to best imitate the available foods the trout are feeding on. Small pheasant tails or RS2s or small caddis pupa can't go wrong.

I fished the lower part of the Gorge last weekend and caught some stockies on an egg (yellow/salmon Blood Dot) and streamer (black wooly bugger) tandem rig fished deep. The water was high and off color. I think it has come down a little since. In lower clearer water, I've had success with scuds, zebra midges and rainbow warriors in the winter. FYI, since the storm a couple of months ago washed out the road, you can only park at either end of the Gorge and have to walk in. Because there are only 4 or 5 parking spots in northern lot (even fewer when some big SUV parks diagonally), unless you get there early, I would head to the lower lot. It's a pretty long frustrating drive around from the upper lot to the lower lot.

How to get to lower end? I have always parked in the lot near Hoffman crossing bridge. I have driven down the dirt road to the lot near the little handicap fishing pier but that's the only way I know to go

Frustrating to get to the lowr end? I hope this is code for "i dont want you fishing lower end because its my spot", because if its not, you must drive a horse'n'buggy, because that must be the easiest "jaunt" i have ever took while fly fishing.

First, My flies i create are actual flies. lol. The top secret midge was created by Pat Dorsey of Colorado. He is guide and legend out that way. If you nymphing for rainbows, Pats flies wont do you wrong as this is his main quarry out west. But the top secret midge works great on wild and stocked trout. Its super simple and its certainly deadly.

Hmmm, You say flies are not really important, yet you name 3 patterns that you cant go wrong with, implying that flies do matter. Very confusing. lol. :)You should try a top secret midge Brian. I know they will go on your cant go wrong list of flies that are relatively unimportant. lol :)

Johnny Utah is RRTUs January speaker.

This guy is an amazing fly tier.

I
am the MAN responsible for bringing him to RRTU.

Make no mistake about it: Beetle stands by his speakers.

Johnny Utah is the man.

The dirt road from the upper lot near the Hoffman's Crossing bridge to the handicap pier is closed (washed out). You can walk in, but no cars can go through. The only way to get to the lower part of the Gorge by car is where River Road crosses Cokesbury road (639) then you go past the private waters of the Solitude Fishing Club up to the lower lot. You can Google it. The frustrating part is that if you find no parking at the upper lot by the Hoffman crossing bridge, you have to drive in a big semi-circle down to the lower lot.

Ok I understand now. I actually found it on the maps on my iPad. If both lots are full where else around that area could I do. I don't live in nj and the gorge is the only place I have done any fly fishing there

Any area of the Sbr above the gorge is good fishing. :) You can go and fish for Bubba. :)

How far is the musky or pequest from the gorge. I have always wanted to try the big flat brook but I think Ill wait for my summer trip to nj or that

Gonzo and I hit up the KLG last Saturday. Was busy in the morning, but the fishing cooled off toward the afternoon, as the temperatures dropped. Managed a couple stockies, and a nice 14" brown from some fast moving pocket water. Turned a few more fish, but couldn't get the hooksets to hold.

Musky is 15 minutes away and pequest is about 30 minutes away. When I fish I like to hit pequest first but before pequest pick up some farm organic eggs then musky and then south branch/klg

If you go over the bridge near the dam in Penwell, past the mill, there is a great farm on your right as the top of the mountain road flattens out. They have the best bacon - thick, Irish cut. The sausage and just about any of the farm raised meat is great too. And yes, the eggs are also excellent.
