Fly Swap '08

sstasiak

Super Pupa
OK boys and girls, the time has come for the next NEFF fly swap. I'm getting cabin fever and figured there's no better way to beat it than to tie some flies.

With the "emergence" of spring just around the corner, I thought it'd be fitting that the theme of this swap be mayfly emergers/wet flies.

The way it will go is like this: each participant gets 2 of each fly. each participant will also tie 2 extra for the site admin. i'd like to keep the number of participants reasonable so that we're not sitting at the vice for days trying to pump out flies....i prefer quality over quantity, but we'll see how many takers i can get first

Me, I'll be tying my variation of a sulphur emerger.

Here is a sample of what you might find on the end of your line should you choose to fish this fly.....

...and here's a close-up of the fly right where it should be.....

Steve count me on this. Last season most of my fish came from a size 16 pheasant tail either with a flashback or a soft hackle I will have that as my fly of choice for this swamp. I figure one of each.

I don't really tie but I'm sorry for the lack of participation you're getting with this. Figured for a fly fishing site, we would get few takers on this.

I don't like to push an opportunity like this off of this site and onto another site but you would honestly get more participation from worm dunkers over on njtrout than you would over here and I sincerely mean that. The lack of participation this site has been getting really discourages me from bothering to pay for the hosting anymore. Anyone who donated within the past few months will certainly get their money back.

Lack of participation = lack of interest = why bother wasting my time and effort. Sorry.

As my close friends know on this board I am a world class fly tier!

Here are the fly's I will be sending in...

Denis, concerning your apathy, well I just don't care!:sneaky:

Dennis,

Could it be that all the guys that like to do fly swaps are already signed up for the one started 4 weeks ago?

The site IMHO is doing fine. Looks like there are even some newbies here. Check out the "How we did at the show" thread.

Welcome aboard striperron, Flatbrook5wt, and 1972lt1.

The apathy is probably due to the lack of fishing by most guys this time of year and maybe the fact that Dallas is out of the playoffs.

Of course I'm sure putting the reigns on some of the colorful humor has had an affect on the number of posts as well. I kinda miss watching AK, FF, and Macfly get into it.

As for reports, myself, rford, and tkhour are doing our best to fish as much as possible and post reports here. From the looks of it, noone else is fishing.

But, that's just my opinion.

Snap Out of It

DC;

It is never to late to convert !

I can have a #12 Brady, #81 Moss or a #37 Harrison shirt to you by this Thursday in plenty of time for the Super Bowl. The way some people behave on here, I highly recommend the Harrison shirt.

and if you act now... I'll even throw in a fitted THREE TIME SUPER BOWL ball cap embossed with XXXVI, XXXVIII, XXXIX logos!
(hum.. all those X's looks like Corndogs report card)

Course, by Super Bowl Sunday evening it will be out dated...

Hey, I'll even get you a FOUR TIME SUPER BOWL win hat next week when I order all mine.... Great give away items... J-E-T-S fans really like it..nice logos and all.. (hidden camera not included* just like our ref's you have to get your own) Sorry NY Football Giants.. you'll just have to do with your NFC Chumps tee shirts and ball caps. Seen enough of them at the FF Show to make every Cowboy and Packer fan break down and cry like TO. Thats why us NE Pat's fans only have Super Bowl Champion clothing.

Talking about the FF Show, I hate to get off topic, but every once in a great while I am compelled to do so.

I noticed that there was a booth to help stop some mining in Alaska.. nobel of the lads.. but next year.. there should also be a booth to ban BEEKO's !!!

Yes Ralph, your days of snagging fish are almost at an end. The worms we all could live with.. the beads have to go...

Along with the mining of course.

As always, just knowing the right words to say to easy the pain.

Lovely San Juan Worm Ball. The new issue of Fly Rod & Reel has tying instructions for that.

Jessie,

I saw that, and I was pissed because I really did invent that like 4 years ago for a trip to Connetquot! Oh well another lost idea.

Ralph:

Those are beautifully tied, but they aren't emergers. Looks more like a weird orgy. :D

Super Pupa - I'm in. I'll tie up Iris Caddis - caddis emerger.

Matt ><)))))'>

just saw the thread now. i will certainly jump on board if there is enough interest. not sure what fly it will be, but i can figure that out soon. maybe something loop-winged.

Steve,

I'm game but it depends on the time frame. If its too short of a window that won't work for me. Let me know what your plan is.

I'll leave the swap open for about another week for those that haven't seen the thread yet and may want to join.

After that, depending on how many participants we get, I figure everyone should have their flies out to me by February 25th(last Monday in February). With the guys we have now, we'll be tying 10 flies(2 for each of us, and 2 of each for Dennis)

I think that's enough time....does anyone have a problem with that timeframe?

the time frame mentioned in your post is fine. i will be tying loop winged olive emergers in size 18.

tight lines all

Count me in....Stillborn Sulphur (a la Quigley Cripple but not quite as fancy) - Size 16 or 18.

PM me the details when you have them.

Clearly Inferior.
Not enough mucous.

C'mon Ralph.
You have higher quality photos of hermaphrodites in orgiastic pleasure,
somewhere inside the dark archives; don't you...?

How ya been buddy?

Are you getting in on this swap by any chance? The larvae you tied for the last one netted me two nice fish...I'm looking forward to more:bigfish:

Time-wise I'm not sure if I can do it.

I have a lobotomy scheduled for early next week. It's just the regular/annual frontal lobal re-tread, but you never know how these things might work out. Therefore, I am hesitant to make any promises.
Ask me again in about seven days.

Beep! Beep!

There are few things finer than a strange, yet well educated, sense of humor. Thanks for the laugh Sero. Good luck with your procedure.

Someone is already tying the klinkhammer. I'd like some variety, but I'm also not about to turn down someone who wants to participate. If that's what you happen to be tying now, then so be it unless the other guys have a problem with it.

I was hoping someone would tie up some soft hackle wet flies...out of curiosity, do any of you guys fish them?

Ill tie some olive/tan bird of prey caddis, size 16 and 18 one of each in each size for a total of 4. let me know where to send them and when.I usually fish them wet.

By my count, we should each be tying 16 flies. That's a good number I think, so to be fair to those of us who may have limited time to tie, I'm closing the swap

C&R, are you a definite?

Hi Sstasiak,

Thank you for the count I'll tie a few extra just in case let me know where to send them and I'll pack them up .

Thank You,
Allen
