One set on Tuesday by Troutfever, nice job done on the flies. These will catch fish and I will surely fish them. I feel others will like them and fish with them as well. I can see that you really are giving it your best. I hope you continaue down this path,

One set today from KennebecRiver Rat , First off nicely tied flies and I am always amazed how sparse tyed flies really catch fish. Vey nice job and my hats off to you

Ok, so I didn't want to send out poor quality flies, Andy B, so I ordered a dozen caddis from Orvis and had them shipped to your address.

They looked pretty good on the Internet, and I'm sure you all will be happy with them.

GB, time to put it to you straight. As previously stated we all have been in your shoes far as a newbie tyer, Some of us (Myself) included did not want to show any of my flies. Then I became a Guild member and was terrified that my skill were not good enough to be around that class of tyers. Boy was I wrong, they encouraged me, helped me grow and then aided in getting my tying level up to higher ranks. I also studied classic winged wet fly techniques and was a follower of Don Bastain for the longest time. I broke away from that mold and have developed my own style and looks. I am no longer Don's number one protege. I am now just Andy Brasko a true classic wet fly tyer and angler. I have been fishing wet flies for 20 years and love them and study all about them. My point here you will never get better unless you practice, join swaps and get your flies out on the internet and take constructive critisim when asked for by you. I am a little disappointed with the flies because I wanted to see your work, and do not give a damb how they look. What mattered is that you tried, probably learned and did the best you can. When I look at newbies now adays I think of Trout Fever who knows he needs and wants to improve and takes all the constructive input he can to get better. Tying is not how beautiful your fly looks, it's about tying flies to catch fish and staying connected to fly fishing during those long winter months. It's a relaxation and a hobby. Actually it's what you make of it. If you hate or dislike tying that's fine because at least you gave it a try. But if you give up on it you may never know the joy's of the hobby, sport and art. Do as you feel, but the only one your hurting inb this case is yourself and allowing your foolish pride to get in the way.

Respectfully
Andy Brasko

Well put Andy well put. I still don't like the way my flies come out but thats what keeps us all practicing and getting better. Beetle all the bs aside you should sit down and tie your caddis and send them in. Nobody's flies are perfect the fact that you tried is all that matters.

Do you guys believe in the Easter bunny too?

I'm just waiting for the Beetle to start doing Elvis impressions and challenging women to wrestling matches....

Ok. My flies will be in the mail tomorrow.

I give my word on that.

And my word is, as they say, bond.

I hope you do GB it's nice to get a box of flys you know everyone worked hard tye. Makes it all worth the while. And as Andy said and I will echo tying for this swap will give you the practice and make you more confident in the future when you go to tye for another swap or yourself for that matter. Can't wait to see them!

My flies are done Andy . Is it ok to bring them this weekend and give them to you?

Hi Allen:

Yes I will see you at fly fest. Sure just give me the flies long with your mailing address. Don't know where I am tying at yet, how about you any clue?????

Great what I'll do is just bring them in a mailer addressed and ready to go thank you!

Not sure yet Andy but my guess would be try to get there early by the looks of the tyer list . Theres going to be a lot of people there for sure they may have to open the other building.

Done.

I like working up against deadlines.

Tying a hendrickson with matching red quill as a bonus fly.

Hey Andy, I just sent out my flies. In the flu box there are some nice catskill dries by Dave Brandt.

Mine are the crappy caddis flies.

Btw, you should have my flies by Friday at the latest.

The caddis are terrible, so you can keep or distribute the Dave Brandt flies if you want and just toss mine in the dumpster, like my maids did.

I have received Broadheadscreeks Flies yesterday. Again another fine set of flies that I am sure all will be happy to receive. Sounds like the last few batches of flies are on there way. I will be up in Roscoe tomorrow at the Guild meeting and hopefully while I'm gone a few more sets of flies will arrive.

I have received Golden Beetles and AKSKIMS flies today in the mail. Both batches of flies are wonderful and again will be nice to fish with. AK I truly love the way the fly looks. Looks like it is crippled and realistic. Should fool some Trout welll with this pattern. Golden Beetle, Your flies look good. I think you did a fine job on them. I am awaiting for one more batch of flies to arrive in the mail and the swap is complete. I will then take pictures of every ones flies for the board to see and then sort them and get them into the mail to all. I will post when I recieve the last batch, then when the pictures are taken and lastly when all flies are in the mail.

Andy, please keep any additional caddis flies for yourself, or, if you don't want em, send em to BRK TRT. He would fish em, I think.

As to the NICE FLIES IN THE BOX (the ones tied by Dave Brandt), distribute those equally amongst the lot of real fly tyers. I feel strongly that I should give up flies of equal quality to those I receive. My flies are beginner ties.

I will be getting a dozen expertly tied flies.

It took guts to join the swap in the first place.

Secondly, you did tie some flies, and you had to of put some real effort into them.

Third, you just got better as a tier.

Come to Shannon's this weekend and you can sit between Andy and I....

beetle i bet your flies are great the thing is your not tying in a classic style your tying your style and if thats the way you tye them than they are perfect.... oh yea i am definately not a expert tier

Andy my flies are done, sorry everyone for being late.
To many things to do and not enough time.
Andy I will have my flies packaged up hendrickson's and the bonus Red Quills for everyone.
I will give them to you Sunday at the tying gig.
My apologies to everyone for being late.
Ronbo

Ronbo:

Thanks for the update and letting all swappers know your status. Life happens, I am glad you completed your flies. Look forward to seeing you Sunday.

To All:

I will next week picture all the flies and sort them and get them into the mail out to all. I want to thank eveyone for participating and making this swap a success. I truly mean this because it's all the tyers that participated that made this event a success.

I received my flies today. I would like to thank all of the tyers involved. The flies were top shelf. Very fine work.

And a special thank you to Andy B, the host of this swap. He compleated the swap, and the mailings of the flies, this while being under a family stress situation.

I do appreciate.
