Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!

Alaska......

Finally got to float the upper Kenai yesterday. I've only ever bank fished, and spend most of my time down on the middle Kenai in my boat, since that's where most of the pigs live.

Fishing started out decent, but slowed down a bit as the skies cleared and sun came out. As soon as it started dropping the fishing really turned on. When I say turned on, I mean turned on!! It was pretty silly how fast it changed. No, I didn't catch anything on dry flies or some super crazy fly. I was fishing beads, because there are millions of eggs in the water. The Sage One 10' 6wt really is an awesome rod and I was impressed with the amount of power it has for only being a 6wt.

I will shut up, here are some pictures.

Oh yeah....I also caught this TOAD!! Yes he ate a bead, a GLSCo 6mm scrambled blood red to be exact! He measured 26" x 15". My biggest rainbow so far.

If any of you are planning on coming here next summer or later this fall, please do shoot me a PM so I can point you in the right direction or get you on the boat for a day or two.

Got out for a little while today on the middle Kenai. Stripped flies for silvers in the morning and went for trout as the bite wore off.

Here are a few pictures from today. We boated three bows that were 25" and boated one 26" bow. You could say we did alright.

I guess the scenery here in Alaska is ok.

The biggest of the day measured 26" x 15"

A great way to end the day.

Your reports and pictures are great. When will the season end ?
Obviously you did the right thing in moving up there.

The season never truly ends. There is lots of open water all through the winter on the Kenai. Unfortunately everything else locks up pretty good.

nice video...liked the music
You are the Vlad of Alaska...

hmph what? ... must have dozed off there. what were we talking about?

oh. yeah, nice video Tobias. you're not the Vlad of Alaska though. Vlad's movies are full of sexy Russian fishwives and barbecued grayling under a starlit sky and guys who drive tanks to the fishing hole.

You're more like the wim wenders of fly fishing. I mean that. Seriously. The distinction is lost on Lightenup because he has no culture.:)

Your video captures the stark hopelessness of existence in the modern world. What a cruel joke life is. We strive and strive, but we're still just pitifully small, insignificant figures, casting endlessly into a bottomless gray maelstrom. Maybe we're catching fish, maybe we're not. Nobody knows for certain. Ultimately, it doesn't matter. Don't wait for closure. There is none. God is dead. We have killed him. Right?

At least that's what I got from it.

Anyway, nice video man! Really made me want to end it all.

I would not say he has reached the high standards Vlad has set, especially the bearded Alaskan women are not like Vlads russian women. I would say his videos are getting closer to Beetles. But not quite there yet.

It's not my best work at all. It literally took me all of ten minutes to make. I didn't take much footage. In fact if you can't tell, I was using my float rod in the video. I did use my spey rods that day, but who wants to just cast and not catch fish?

Hit the Kenai for a little while today. Fishing was slow, but I managed a few. Nothing huge, but I did trick a fat 24" bow.

A buddy and I were talking about how we are truly spoiled. Anywhere else in the country a fish over 20" would be a great fish. There are guys here who don't consider it a successful trip unless they catch a bow over 25". Definitely spoiled.
