Alaska - Kenai River September 18th - September 26th

Hi Folks,
A bit of a delay on this write up, but better late than never!
My father and I went to Alaska September 18[SUP]th[/SUP]-26[SUP]th[/SUP]. Last year when I began planning this trip, I spoke to Tobias about the best times to come. While fishing is spectacular all season, the bigger fish show their faces post-labor day. And boy was he right!
My father and I flew on Saturday and made our way down to the Kenai Peninsula just prior to dark. With most every place closed down for the season, it was difficult trying to find a general store to stock up on food/goods. In retrospect, we should have stocked up on supplies prior to leaving Anchorage.
Sunday was the first day we fished and Tobias met us at our cabin at 6am. We made our way down to Skilak Lake and unloaded the jet sled. We made our way up to the inlet and absolutely CRUSHED fish! (crushed fish was the name of the game all week).
Fish up to 24’’ were brought to the next, with some bigger that got away. After lunch, we made our way down to the “Middle” where my dad promptly employed flesh flies and brought to the net some brutes. Stubborn, I stuck with 6mm plastic and still managed to hold my own ;)
On Monday, we took the drift boat to the upper Kenai and dropped at Sportsman’s. The float down to Jim’s was nothing short of spectacular. EASILY over 150 fish. Mountains full of sheep, river full of trout, and lunch consisting of Moose, black-tailed deer, and Caribou, we couldn’t have asked for anything better!
On Tuesday we made our way down the peninsula more to hit another river for fresh chrome. While the water was up and off color, the steel head weren’t cooperating. Of course, dollys were everywhere. At lunch time we headed back to the Kenai and crushed slobs all afternoon.
I won’t bore you with details, but the rest of the week was a mixture between floating the Upper Kenai and the Middle grounds. Blue bird days and 100+ fish was the name of the game. My father, with a somewhat aversion to beads, crushed fish all week on flesh flies, and slobs too!
With that said, I just like to say Chris Tobias runs an absolutely TOP NOTCH operation as Roe Hard Guide Service. My father and I were treated like kings the whole time. We fished sun up to sun down every day and Chris had us on fish the whole time! The lunches were just out of this world. All wild, fresh killed game, it was truly the trip of a lifetime!
Thank you, Chris!
Please enjoy the photos. I only got around to editing some of them. Enjoy!

Ctobias is that the net from John Parise? Turned out great

Mac that was the net that John made for me. It's a beautiful and very well built net. It works perfect in the boat.

Chris,

It was a blast having you and your dad out on the water for a week. I don't think either of us could have timed our vacations any better!

The fishing definitely slowed down after you guys left.
