Ausable River; 2015

Good Afternoon Gentlemen,

I hope everyone has been been well.

Just a short time ago, my father and I finished up our annual trip to the Ausable River.

We were up for a weekend with basically perfect weather; a bit hot, but bearable. The river was lower than what we've seen in the past but still at a wonderful height.

Methods of choice were high-sticking your usual nymph patterns in the pocket water as well as Colorado nymphing a size 4 Chubby with a size 14/16 bead head dropped off the bend through any type of water. Trout were absolutely CRUSHING the large attractor dries as we were amidst an epic Stonefily hatch all week.

The black flies were there in FULL FORCE, however we had "ZOF!", a black fly repellant made locally. The stuff works wonders and we were bit fewer than 5 times.

By the last day, the heavens opened up and dumped 3'' of rain on the northern tier, giving them much needed precipitation.

Please enjoy the pics!

Nice. I think I recognized every scene in those pics.

That pull off in pic 4 is a pretty special spot if its where I think it is. I think it took 4 trips up before I pulled in to see what was down there, soooo glad we did.

I was looking around on zillow for somthing up there and saw that piece you have to walk around above fran betters pool across from the koa campground is for sale. i think it was 14 ac. with 1200 ft of river and 850ft of highway frontage. I believe your dads standing across from it at that giant boulder in one pic. 250k

Great pics!

I might be heading up to the Adirondacks at the end of July.
What section/area of the Ausable did you fish?

Sun,

Pic #4 is Of Monument Falls pull-off. Some slob fish are had on the bend swinging streamers, and many fish can be caught in the pocket water just below the falls. The flood screwed that spot up for the worse, but it still fishes.

I too saw that piece of property ;) That section below the flume is spectacular water, however mostly private as you know until you get to Lake Everest. I would love a piece back there. As far as the pic of my pops, that's Quarry Pool. Looks like you need another trip up there off to brush up ;)

Professor,

Keep an eye on temps in July, but they have been getting steady rain so you may be ok.

As far as what parts of the Ausable, I literally fish it from the headwaters on the West Branch to the confluence of the East & West Branches. AWESOME water for its entirety for the most part. When it gets closer shoot me a PM and ill point you in the right direction. I will say though, during the height of the season/ post season, leave the C&R Area to the fucking birds. Fish are pretty beat up. The areas outside of the C&R receive VERY LITTLE pressure and fish well all the time.

Great pics!

Nice Simms. I go up there a couple of times each year and have never fished it. I need to dedicate a trip to just fishing.

You guys want to go in on that property?
