Good Afternoon Gentlemen,
I hope everyone has been been well.
Just a short time ago, my father and I finished up our annual trip to the Ausable River.
We were up for a weekend with basically perfect weather; a bit hot, but bearable. The river was lower than what we've seen in the past but still at a wonderful height.
Methods of choice were high-sticking your usual nymph patterns in the pocket water as well as Colorado nymphing a size 4 Chubby with a size 14/16 bead head dropped off the bend through any type of water. Trout were absolutely CRUSHING the large attractor dries as we were amidst an epic Stonefily hatch all week.
The black flies were there in FULL FORCE, however we had "ZOF!", a black fly repellant made locally. The stuff works wonders and we were bit fewer than 5 times.
By the last day, the heavens opened up and dumped 3'' of rain on the northern tier, giving them much needed precipitation.
Please enjoy the pics!
