Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!

AK if you are out there, look away now!!!

the sad old dog with no friends
So, while driving home form the open house a Pequest yesterday, my wife just about jumped out of her seat....turn around now she says, where is that camera....this is why we turned around. So just as a friendly warning to everyone, the bears are awake and they are hungry!!!!

According to our Governor, we dont have an over population of bears in NJ..

He ain't to bright is he....this is the same guy who almost died because he didn't wear a seatbelt!

I can't believe there are that many wild bears up there.

If asked a few minutes ago, I would have said there was less than half that number in the bear population in Northern New Jersey.

This is an on going epidemic.

I ain't fishing that river NOOooooo MOOOOOooore........

Don't say that to people in the Hacketstown, Andover area as they are over run by bears as seen in the picture kindly put up by Jamiep!! I have a friend that lives in the area and is on constant alirt during the spring and the fall as they are looking to fatten up and feed the young.

I've never seen them in such a big group before. Is it unheard of to see a litter of bear cubs in that big of a number, Ive seen four cub before, but never six. They all appear to be approximately the same size, you'd almost think they were from the same litter?

I have a friend that lives near Greenwood lake. She told me there is a mother bear in her neighborhood that has 5 cubs! I didn't believe it was possible for a bear to have more than 2 cubs but your photo proves that it is possible.

Great Googly Moogly....Thats a lot of bears!!!!

Useless factoid # 2,395,867. NJ bears have the best reproduction rates of black bears anywhere in North America. I know as of 3 years ago we averaged 3.2 cubs per sow. It is not at all atypical to have 5 cubs. This is the first time I have seen 6, but I watched a large sow and her 5 cubs walk in front of my car at Waywayanda SP a few years ago in the autumn while small game hunting.

As for our Governor, he will tell you that all our bears in NJ come across the border from PA and NY:bang:
Can he really believe that? I know he's on record as saying it on a regular basis...

For AK - I understand that Hawaii has a zero bear population. Not much in the salmon department, but at least you won't get eaten:)

I just looked at the rest of the photos, and I see how you could see that, and now I'm not sure what I saw....what I do know is that is more bears than I like to see in one place at one time!

From what ive been hearing, sows in NJ have been having higher numbers of cubs than average (2). Which does not help the situation. Those all look about the same size too.

Also, as female black bears get older their average litter size increases. This only seems like more reason to support a limited hunt, take some of the older bears and prevent them from having so many cubs.

Soon enough, someone will complain about these bears and animal control will pick them up and drop them off in Sussex County. Good thing cause we need new bears along the flatbrook to keep the fishermen away. The ones we have now are just not scary enough anymore.

Rusty,

You said "I watched a large sow and her 5 cubs walk in front of my car at Waywayanda SP a few years ago in the autumn while small game hunting."

Are you still small game hunting from your car? I stopped years ago cause I was told they outlawed hunting from a moving vehicle. :guns:

Cdog

Think about it for a second, did he really believe that speeding up the Parkway did not require a seatbelt? Apparently he did!

I have enough bears in my area and backyard to charge admission for the show. We have learned to live with them, but they are a nuisance at the very least and a threat to small animals and people under the right conditions. I cannot believe that the groups that oppose the bear hunt in NJ have so much influence.

I find if I actually hunt from inside the car I can follow my dog all day long without getting tired. :)

I was leaving the park when I passed Yogi and her 5 cubs. I called F&W thinking the sow must have adopted some of them only to learn that it is not uncommon at all for a litter (litter?) of 5 cubs.

One day im going to go postal on all those nj bears.
Get me a good ole semi-automatic weapon and Go on a killing spree.
I hate bears man.

I think i am giving up fishing.

What would've happened kindanewbie if you were walking there with your little girl man.?

My little girl and I were safely tucked away in our big truck....I sent my wife out there with the camera:)! Those bears were not interested in anything else but the bagels that they were eating out of the dumpster, there were people standing close enough to the bears that if they wanted to, they could have had some people ka bobs!

Interestingly, 12% of NJ bear gestation occurs either beneath high-voltage power lines or near a Superfund site.

Coolio:

That has to be the dumbest post I have ever seen here on NEFF.

I believe you just beat out CatskillFool Mountain Man.

I'M SORRY... I FORGOT.

I read a number of Twistem's posts on here.

OK, that means you just came in second.

Just ahead of CatskillFool Mountain Man.

At this time of the year not a wise thing to do you know how protective you are of your kids! The Sow is even more protective!!

I am aware of that fact, however, I'm still unsure if there was a sow there or not...like I said, I didn't leave the truck!!!

"Hey honey", he says as he pushes the wife out of the truck, "can you get a good close up of those bears over there?" Who needs divorce?:D

Goodbye ole :ballnchai

The main problem with that accident wasn't that he diddn't wear a seat belt but rather that the trooper wasn't going fast enough:hysterica:hysterica

Where were those pictures taken?

Right down the road from the Yellow Cottage on Rt 206 north in Frankford township....there is a bagel place on the north bound side, which apparently is a dumpster divers delight!
