Retired Mechanical Engineer.... I worked mostly in the Gravure Printing industry running capital expansion projects, however a long-long time ago I spent a couple of years in a now defunct Hard Rubber Products factory in Butler, polluting Ross's River.
 
I am the systems administrator for a card access system, this allows people to use an ID card to unlock doors instead of a key.
 
I have been a telecommunications engineer since 1982. I began working on Telex and private line applications used for vice and data down in the Wall Street area. Back in those days 8K of RAM was a lot of memory and 9600 baud was lightning fast. Today I do network design (WAN and LAN) for fortune 500 companies. Some of my accounts are McDonalds, ING, AIG, Becton Dickinson and many others. The job gives me a big head ache and I really can't stand it, but the money is good!

BTW, we are looking to hire some engineers with Cisco certification here in Piscataway- pronounced (PISS-CAT-AWAY). If you have Cisco certifications and some design experience please PM me for details.

Self employed carpenter/contractor. I love what i do and I do it well since 1986. Worked the family business for a year and hated every minute of it. I don't do roofing or concrete, that is what illegals are for.
 
I am a structural engineer, design foundations and framing from house additions to
multi-story business centers. We hold up what architects dream of. Work is a little slow
but with fishing season opening up and I'm ready to go, it will probably start getting busy.

Currently, I am doing finish carpentry in a full renovation job of an apartment on the upper east side. Decent money, but lousy bosses.(the owners) I was previously employed by The Blue Man Group doing special effects R&D (i.e. blowing things up, shooting things out of compressed air cannons, etc.) Was in IT (building machines) and Network Support prior to that for a couple of years, have been a mechanic off and on since I was about 14, spent a few years in an artisan bakery making bread.....
yup, that about covers my 37 years....
 
You might as well there are a lot of HUNGRY carpenters right now, as the lot of us are waiting for something to give in the shite economy!

AK hit the nail on the head - someone's going to die on that show and it won't be the father/son team that have a combined IQ of about 9. It's like watching the logging version of Orange County Choppers with retards.

I also like Heli-Logging on opposite Ax Men. Those guys are also nuts.

Fun learning what the rest of you do (did) for a living. Let's hope this economy picks up soon or we'll all be out of work. Good luck to those searching to feed your families, I know how tough that can be.
 
I'm a lifeguard or I work at my friends dad's beer and wine warehouse. Lots of free drinks on Mr.D (bossman). Other than that I'm going to class to be a forest ranger
 
I am a union carpenter for the last 5 years and prior to that had my own construction business for 14 years custom kitchens , bathrooms and wood spiral stair cases . Loved it but trying to keep some of these bozo's that call them selves carpenters on the job made you want to pull your hair out which explains the receding hair line...:)

I've been a screen printer since 2001 (all of my adult life). I work at a little place on the pier in Red Hook, Brooklyn. I'm a sample printer, so I have to make 1 of something, such as a prototype nightgown for Bloomingdale's, or a see-thru tank top for Scarlett Johansson or a bikini top before it's been sewn. It's a lot of stress, and my company is retarded, but I'm awesome at it and I get my pick of shirts the other guys screw up.

Bout as ignorant of a comment as it gets. I know a bunch of good men, including ME,who would love to have a concrete or roofing job right now. Keep giving the illeagles the work while the True Americans are starving. You are 100% wrong and should edit your comment!!!!!!! First: I do not carry insurance that permits me to do roofing, nor do I care to roof.

Second: I have done many a concrete job, I have subs that are much better equipped to pour foundations, wet laid walks, chimneys, ect.

Third: Welcome back Dave, I really missed ya!

Forth: Where did you read that I use Illegals.

There is no work because of the contractors trying to save money by hiring illeagles.... They are takin all our work, I am furious with these contractors.. Dont care who I make mad, this is REALITY!! Good men losing there homes and LIVES because of people doing this exact thing...... I was making 35/hr this time last yr and now I am making 10???? CMON!! Stop this crap! Give the work to the LEGAL!!!!!

Immigration and illegal immigration are hotly debated political issues. Obviously it's an issue of concern for a lot of people who are being forced out of work by people who will work for less. But you folks can take your anger turned bigotry somewhere else! Or go kick a dog or something. Or hell, enter a training program or college and find a new line of work!

Was awesome of him and Wylie to help..Lots of others offered their help too since the first flood. I guess everybody on the river should just move huh? I wont ask you for help when the floods come again, Got plenty of other members #s who would come in an instant. Some of us have been doing the same thing for a long, long time and we are damn good at it, why the hell should we have to change. Because some jerkoff homeowner wants to get a better deal on the work, so he hires uninsured, and usually under-experienced illegal workers who are taking work from myself and many other highly skilled craftsmen, and usually do a crap job anyway....I don't think that is the answer at all. But this wasn't the illegal immigrant thread, so I'll just stop now.
