Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!

1st Annual NEFF Steelhead BASH!

Well guys,

Lets get this thread moving again.

First and foremost, PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, PM me with what dish/paper goods you are bringing! I NEED TO KNOW!

There have been numerous reports of fish stacking up in 150 feet of water!!! With all the other tribs near the Salmon River MUChH than the Salmon itself, the fish are concentrating ont he estuary now...If Grindstone,Sandys and Maxwell stay dry until the season, well be able to walk across the Salmon River ont he backs of all the fish! TIGHT LINES!

Good Lord AK, as Miss Elizabeth use to say to me in her sweet No-th Cara-linaaa accent, what are you doing....?

Well, I just hope I am one who has sent in his PM and list of goodies.. I say.. I say.. list of goodies.

I have shored up my plans and my status can now be change from 50/50 to 100%.

I will be arriving in town early (is there any other way?) Friday morning and will be leaving Saturday night. I have my lodging reservations and have already PM'd Simms my status regarding food and beverage.

As someone who usually orchestrates the group outings for my clan of buddies, there is nothing more frustrating that having everyone say they are in, but not follow through with the planning process (I'm going through this now for a mid-september salmon trip). Please PM Simms, even if your plans are not shored up, at least to give him an idea what your status is and whether you will be part of the meals etc. He is an organizer (hopefully not a community organizer, although it would qualify him for plenty a job), take advantage of this........it'll also make me feel better, and I want to have a good day.

Thanks again Simms/Chris for organizing this. I am looking forward to meeting and fishing with you guys, including Trico Mike.

To make any event a success a few simple things will make all the difference.

Lodging; received a PM today that three people have already made reservations at Stoney's Campground for a cabin. Keeping the group together in a central location will be key to the evening planned events. Less chance of drinking and driving.

Lenght of the event; for some a three day weekend, the rest a two day trip. Long enough for all to enjoy.

Facilitator; a seasoned vetran of the Salmon River wars in the month of November who will organize arrival times and meeting locations, with someone to meet the incoming members.
Who will pair up experienced Salmon River fisherman with one's who hasn't fished the SR in a while or their first time up.
We have that in SIMMS.

Out side of lodging FOOD will be key to the entire event. So it is very important to PM SIMMS on what you are planning on bringing so we can plan to cover the other items, or respond to questions when asked by someone on what they should bring.

And last but not least; the mandatory BEER BASH FOR THE STEELHEAD BASH ... again our leader SIMMS is leading the charge on that.

Been receiving PM's now, thanks for the plugs guys!

Dennis, I will get you that spread sheet tonight. Just arrived back home in the dirty Jersey so its family time for the time being. Will get down to brass tacks this evening.

Thank you all!!

Guys,

I just wanted to thank those who have been PM-ing me! Greatly appreciated! However, there are more of you who still need to do so!

THE GIGGLER has a 3 man DB, so if he is up to man his boat for the various floats(and let others switch off the oars of course) we can acccomodate 5 guys (including oarsmen) for each of the 5 floats...THis should be perfect as it will allow everyone to see the river from the comfort of a boat :)

I will be bringing up my dewalt flood lights and other forms of light...We need this even to be seen on google earth. HAHA

As I have stated before, I will be taking care of breakfast for all three mornings. You guys are welcome to bring muffins/bagels for an additional side, however my breakfast caserole will most likely be the best breakfast you wil ever have. IM not be sarcastic either. Its is the BOMB! I will also be providing OJ! Its cold season, need that Vitamin C!!!!

TIGHT LINES!

I had a blast up there last year and I just gotta new 8 wt, so I pumped for this trip...

Cooked with fresh chicken wings and smothered in my own Frostebreeze Hot Sauce.
making a new batch of hot sauce this weekend with some Habanero's and Ghost peppers from the garden
Hold onto your ass !!!:)
They will definetly be able to see us from space.

Best to be half way through the tour when you come back.

Ten months v. six can be tough.

Besides, we will use the November trip as a learning tool, that way there in April we can plan around your leave time and have NEFF STEELHEAD BASH 2 - BETTER THAN EVER then.

For those preparing for the bash and may be looking to upgrade your gear..........this is posted in the classified section, but I don't know how much traffic it gets with the newer format. Perfect for switch, 12.5' & under speys and single handers. It's an 8-10wt reel......& it's a Ross.

This reel is brand new. I've never fished it and it has been sitting in a drawer. It comes with the neoprene pouch in the photo.

$300

Got the PM.
Getting real psyched for some steelhead action!!!!
I need to start tying soon...or else I'll be up everynight at the vise, like last time...

With Irene dropping some rain on the area and next weekends white water release, I will be up...Look for a blacked out HEMI with orange stripes and a pontoon on the back heading WEST on 90 :) While floating the mid and upper river will be useless, it will give me a chance to see any new blowdowns/changes int he river since spring. If Im not floating, you can find me at Clambed/Haldane/Ballpark ambusing the fresh pods coming in. IM hoping tis cool enough to bring some chrome and purple dotters in as well...

******

As for the event, most people have been PM-ing me! :) Thank you a bunch! Keep them coming!

It seems as though everyone attending has already found lodging, which is great. If not and your on the fence, get the frick off the fence and book..This is shaping up to be a banner steelhead season. Dont miss out on room availability!

Tom,

Here she is. THis was taken April 1st at camp..

Phil,

When you get a chance please PM me to let me know what your bringing so i can jot it down. THANKS!!!

Boys, Brookfield will begin its minimum flow of 335 starting on Wednesday. DSR has reports seeing "good" numbers of kinds moving through...With the whitewater release scheduled for this weekend, look for Monday/Tuesday to be INSANE.

Just to psychologically prepare you Chris, I highly doubt they will be running the water at 750 this weekend. The reservoir is still very low...makes me wonder how long they will be able to sustain it at 335 if they don't get significant rain. Irene for the most part completely passed them by.

I'm planning on heading up Saturday and possibly Monday. I'll report back to the group what I see. It'll still be a few more weeks until any major push of fish come, although last year by the 8th of September, the lower river was slammin' with fish. That is what makes this time of year so fun. They are there, you have to look for them, but you will have the river to yourself for the most part.

I doubt the 750 release will happen, and they only have to run 335 if they have enough water. Hopefully some rain makes it up there soon.

Oh and a "good" run by DSR standards is 1-200 fish, hahaha. When your in it to coax as much money from people you have to embellish the truth, AKA being a dirty stinking liar (I love the DSR :give-the-finger:)

While people tend to bash the DSR for their reports (and I am not here to defend them), I find them to be consistant with what I see happening. On days I fish the run, which is plenty throughout the season,I read the DSR daily report afterwards and find them to be pretty darn accurate. On other forums, it usually appears that those who smear the reports, don't fish the run, which confuses me then how they can say they are not accurate or the numbers are inflated........

If the reports are not consistant with the river activity, then why read them?

I can promise you this Twism, When I post a report, it'll be spot on baby!
