I've owned a few pairs of waders, thought they were all good. I now fish with an expensive pair of Orvis waders (they make me feel rich and sexy), which are extremely comfortable, and I have a 10 yearold pair of cheapo $89 white river waders from either basspro or cabellas that weigh next to nothing, have a boot foot and still don't leak...... I think they are all good if you take care of them.... especially when putting them on or off.....

true some pepole are very hard on equipment. But i hear a lot about how good customer service is for this company or that company. I think a sign of a quality product is not having to use their customer service at all. Kinda like the Maytag repairman

You are one of the lucky ones.........for now. If you fish more than a couple times a year, you'll be calling Orvis for a replacement, especially if they are bootfoot. I am not sure how better to take care of a bootfoot wader after wearing them 2 times and the felt becomes unglued. I guess I shouldn't have walked in them. By all means, keep wasting your money on Orvis waders. This is an Orvis issue, not a lack of care issue, you'll see. 5 defective pairs in 2 years? At least they gave me my money back.

I fish a lot with waders, spend a lot of time in VT where the streams I fish are VERY rocky and slick, I hope your wrong about the Orvis waders, (I love crap from Orvis)....time will tell........

I wish I were man. I too am a big fan of Orvis and a ton of my gear is from them.........reels (double digits), lines, leaders, tippet, fleece, bags and the list goes on and on and on. Their waders are the only thing I have ever had problems with, and it's way to consistant to be a single bad pair and I certainly take great care of my gear. I've converted from Orvis to Simms and have had zero issues. I'm currently saving my Orvis Rewards for a Hydros.

I took a casting lesson las spring with an Orvis 9' 5wt tip flex helios, it casted like a dream, but after all was said and done I don't think I'd catch one more fish with it than I do my two other Orvis 5wt rods, I did buy a 3wt 6'6" full flex trout bum at the Manchester store last year, which is just what the Dr. ordered for backwoods small stream brookies.

Looking to get new waders. Who do you use?

AP
Dan Bailey's, I think they are about 7 years old now. I recently had them repaired for seepage around the knee area
free of charge. They did'nt even charge me for the return shipping. Excellent service. Big bang for your buck.

It appears that 3 companies stand out above the rest when it comes to quality, longevity and customer service based on posts throughout the internet, chatting with anglers, feedback on this forum and personal experience.

In no particular rder other than abc's.

Dan Bailey
Patagonia
Simms

They all cost more, but they last.

Most of us had to learn the hard way. If your just starting out and looking for waders, make the initial investment, you'll thanks us later.

I own two pairs of Simms G3's. The stocking foot and the muck boot. Best waders I have ever owned. Only paid retail for one set, so I lucked out. You get what you pay for in a wader. I was real hard on my stocking foots since I fished almost 285 days straight that year. They're broke in real nice, haha. Simms wanted me to send them back for the one year sercive thing they do, but that would require me to stop fishing. I guess I could find time this summer to do it. It's all in what you want to spend and the comfort of them. I just believe you get what you pay for with Simms, plus, their waders are made in AMERICA! Can't say the same for some of their other products.

Waders?

Hell, the Main Stem at Callicoon is 80 degrees and the East Branch Delaware at Fish's Eddy is 76 degrees --- Beaverkill - 74 degress!

That water is so warm --- you can wear bathing trunks this Memorial Day.

Just remember to wear heavy cleats with your Speedos.

Have a great Holiday!

Kindest regards and tight lines always,
Admr.

Orvis still living up to it's reputation

Another Orvis XT tailwater pair of waders shit the bed. We're fishing the WCC last week and my buddy tells me his left foot is soaking wet...........I wasn't surprised. He is sending them back and will be using credit towards the new Silver Labels with the bog boots attached. Someday he'll buy Simms.....I think he owns stock in Orvis.

Oh......my new Simms G3 guide pants are the best!!!! I would suggest them to anyone who never wades above their waist.

Until the next Orvis failure (one more guy in our group still has the XT's & is fishing with us for 4 days this upcoming week, so it won't be long)

well I had many brands over the years, I have to agree with those that had Ovris. So when my tail water XT leaked right at my crotch i canned them and got Simms G3. The best move i ever made. The Gore-Tex is a big difference over laminated material. Its drier, lighter, I'll never go back.

I, too, have had many problems with Orvis waders. I fish a lot so I own and use several pairs. I sent four pairs back this year and have sent at least one pair back each season in previous years. Personally, I think they go from the drawing board directly into production, without any field testing. If they are tested, it's not for long and probably by someone sitting on his ass in a driftboat all day.

This year Cabela's had Cloudveil waders on clearance at a fantastic price, plus I could use my promotional discount card. I decided to make the switch from Orvis and buy a pair but I was too late and they were sold out. Subsequently I learned that Cloudveil is discontinuing making waders.

The next chance to break away from Orvis came when I saw Patagonia waders on clearance in the Madison River Fly Company catalog. I ordered a pair but found them extremely tight in the calf area making them almost impossible to put on and take off. Not looking forward to struggling with them every morning and night I sent them back.

For the time being, I haven't broken away from Orvis and I guess I'll continue to own them for as long as they make good on them. On the bright side, their Customer Service person told me that they changed factories so I'm hoping for better performance.

Since my wife and I both started fly fishing at the same time, we had to buy "double" of everything. That being said, cost was a Major factor with funds being tight at the same time. I bought my wife a pair of Orvis waders. She loves them, no leaks, no issues. Me, on the other hand, since I'm a very large guy, didn't have many options finding my stout size, plus fitting loose enough for warm under garments during the cold winter months. I found a new pair of Snowbee brand that fit perfect. I love them, BUT, since I walk through the woods first with my wife following me, my waders have many little holes due to stiker bushes. Now they leak, but have to repair them often. My next pair will be Simms for sure. Well worth the extra money to have a custom size made for me. OR, just buy a tread mill......:crap:

Walking through thick brush and stickers will take its toll on even Simms, I now by experience, not the waders fault but mine. The good thing is Simms will patch them up for you at a fair price. If you plan to walk through thick brush I would repair the cheaper waders and use them for that purpose and save the Simms for non bush wacking fishing. Thats what I have done and its works out well. Also carry some of that glue that sets with ultra violet rays in 15 seconds for quick repairs on the stream.

What is that glue called?

Aquaseal UV repair glue,,,other companies also make it and any fly shop should have it by that name or some other, just ask for UV repair glue for waders. It cures hard like epoxy and not pliable but does not make any difference when using just a drop to fix a pin hole. This sets so fast they tell you to use it in the shade, you then have about 15-30 seconds before it cures and can go right back into the water. Be sure to clean the tip of the tube right away within that 15-30 seconds or it will cure on the tip and you will not be able to re-cap it. So use it, wipe off applicater and cap it asap.

Yeah, Aquaseal is the good stuff. But I've also used Shoe Goo with great results as well.

Yeah, I know it's me and the brush 100%. I have those Snowbee waters that are boot foot. Like I said, due to my size and budget, that's what I currently have. In time, I'd like to get a stocking foot with wading boots. Those I'll need to have custom made. So far, I know Simms will do that. That's why I said Simms, not because I think they would hold up to brush better than others. I didn't clarify. My bad. Thanks though....;)

I usually carry regular aquaseal and a couple of "patches" - pieces of plastic cut up from a ziplock (or similar) bag. If I get a hole in my waders while out fishing I just put a dab of aquaseal on the inside and then apply the patch so that I way I don't have to wait for the aquaseal to dry completely. The UV stuff is an option too I've had no problem with the patch and go approach either. 2 mins of repair work and I am back on the water.

The only problem with either method is you are already wet when you find out you have a leak, summer I just keep on fishing, winter is another thing.

has anyone used the Orvis Sonic Seam waders yet? They look like they would be nice for fishing when you you have a hike to get to where you want to fish..... I think my ass will look nice in them.... I just don't know if they will match my shoes and fishing fag bag......

I hate it when my fishing apparel clashes:)
