I love it and nobody carries it. I'm trying to get Shannon's to carry it. Got free samples last winter from a rep and now I can't find more when I need it except online. I plan to replace my Rio and Frog's Hair with it for trout

They don't have it, I stopped by there before my big trip last week. Wound up with more Rio which is fine, but the new Trout Hunter is hands down the best I've ever tried. Knots, to suppleness, to strength, it has it all.

So it looks like Trout Hunter comes in half sizes; 4.5x, 5.5x, 6.5x. I've never heard of that before.
Gimmick? Or could there be a reason for going with such a specific diameter?

I only use floro in the salt or I have 6X floro for tiny nymphs that I use once in awhile. Otherwise I use mono. If you try this brand, I promise you'll like it. I had settled on Rio as my choice over others in the recent past until I tried Trout Hunter brand.

I saw it yesterday in Baxter House in Roscoe as well. After I paid shipping fees to order it online of course. :crap:

I always take Yellowstone Anglers (or any retailers) reviews with a grain of salt. Not exactly independant and neutral parties, no matter what they say. And man, what a bunch of sheeple you guys are! Trout Hunter better pay those dudes some royalties. How many times have you had your Rio, or any other high-end leader, legitimately fail on you? And not because you didn't tie a decent knot, but a legitimate failure?

I agree that taking the industry reviews with a grain of salt is good advice.

Never read a review on this product before I tried it or since. It was given to me by a manufacturer's rep to try. I was shocked to find it the best tippet I've ever tried in 5x and 4x. I don't care if it's the cheapest or most expensive tippet going, I'm going to go to it for all my tippet sizes for trout.
I like Trout Hunter - Harrops flies are great and their CDC is second to none. However, I doubt that they make their own tippet. I'd bet it is some other brand (European? Japanese?) labeled for Trout Hunter. I'd also guess the odd sizes are an attempt to convert from metric. Much of the world sizes the leader by its diameter in mm and not some archaic X system that dates back to silk gut leaders. I like tradition in fly fishing, but our tippet sizing system has to go.

I got an email back from Rich Paini at Trout Hunter. Ramsey's Outdoors carries it also. I talked to Shannons and they may look into it?

My RIO has never failed me. Love the stuff and have no intention of trying anything else. RIO works and NEVER fails me.

I guess Im old school I stick with the the MAXIMA Brown and the Orvis Super Strong Never had a problem with either of them. Back in the day many years ago I used to tie my own leaders. I wish I had the Orvis Formulas chart but for the life of me I have no idea what happened to it. I really never went with the "X" on the leader or the tippet material. I always went with how many .001 of an inch it was.
If memory serves me correctly the "X" had to do with lb test and not with thickness of the material. So the thousanth of an inch was more important than the actual "X" of the material. Today i just say f it -- I use braided leaders and Maxima or Orvis tippet material no thinking in that at all just tie a Surgeons Loop and put the tippet on.

Well, there has been lot's of great input. But thus stuff seems to be a flash in the pan and is really hard to find. I don't feel like ordering from a web site because then it is way too EXPENSIVE ... I am sticking with my RIO Floroflex+. I can buy RIO locally at several places if needed. As mentioned RIO has not let me down either. I would like to try it but I will not to pay shipping on tippet. Thanks !

It's not that other tippet materials "failed" on me, it's that I find Trout Hunter's tippet to be the best combo of suppleness, strength and ease of knot tying. I'm out of 5X and picked up a spool of my normal Rio in that size until I can find the TH material again. If Ramsey carries it, I can swing by there as Ledgewood is close by. I'll use my new Rio for guiding and keep the Trout Hunter for myself then
