Good Morning fellers,
This past Friday I arrived at beautiful Pulaski, New York to be greeted with HIGH, DIRTY water. I could not be happier! Steel would be int he SLACK water, CLOSE to the banks...Landing them would be a different story.
So we suited up and headed down in back of camp...Got there and we could not cross our normal spot as the water was cranking. So my father and uncle stayed at the mouth of Trout Brook and began fishing. Being crazy, insane, or just down right stupid, I walked about 200 yards down b4 the island and "moon walked" accross. It was a tad scary, but it was the lowest part of that stretch...I had to cross..FISH WERE CALLING MY NAME...
I made my way back up, rig up a tandem rig (shhhhhhhhhh), thingamabobber, 2 egg weights and began! 1st cast I hooked a beautiful steelhead...Fought pretty well for COLD water temps...
So, normally this time of year, you only can grab 1 or 2 fish out of the same spot, I knew there could be one more, esp since this spot was a 80 yard long slack seem... A few cast last my indie went down, BAM! Another beautiful droppy...
Exhausting that one area, I moved down 10 feet and drifted the enxt portion of slack seem...Chucked my rig north, threw a tuck cast in, and patiently watched my indie... TICK TICK TICK, SET! A BEAUTIFULLLLLLLLLLLLLL brown came to hand...
The air temp was 27 degrees so I was constantly battling the ice building on my rod...So I took a few and cleaned that off, took out my mini can of PAM and gave her a coat...No more issues, atleast for a little while...
Moved down yet again and coaxed another sloppy droppy...
My dad and uncle were getting PISSED, as I was right accross from them nailing them..They did not feel like crossing so there was nothing I could do...They did manage a few swinging buggers in the hole where TB enters the SR...So they couldn't complain!
I moved down to the tail out of that hole and had at it....
MONSTER brown broke me off..DOH!
SO i took a breather, headed over to go chat with pops and my uncle...Spoke to a few guys who were staling steel in trout brook...bastards...They had there 5foot tuna rods and BB weights...can you say SNAGGING?????????
So, we headed back up to camp to have a cup of coffee and a slice of coffee cake..
Decided to head down into town...
We managed 4 fish to hand and 2 other break offs....Unforutnately, my camera took a swim and was not dried out by then..OH my cell phone did too!!!!!!!! No ability to take pics hahaha!!!!
I finished up at the LFZ practing my spey casts... Finally I got down the perry poke and snap t...the double spey im wokring on! :looser: Got back to camp, had some venison maccaroni caserole/garlic bread/salad/ and a rootbeer...Bullshitted for a few, then went to bed..Slept for a solid 8 hours!!!!!
Got up, river was cranking at 4500! :nose-picking: We headed back down hehind camp...HOLY SHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET. (this is looking up from where TB enters the SR...
looking down
Managed to hook 3 sloppies close to the bank, but once out in the current, that 6lb test doesn't hold well! LOL!!! We called it an early day..Headed up to camp, packed up and got on the road...No sense in staying..
