How about a fishing report?

flyman23

Just finished a River Runs Through it!
Got back from a few days at the Dream Catchers on the West Branch. All and all pretty slow. I spoke to guys fishing from Stilesville to Deposit to Hale Eddy down to the Gamelands even the Main Stem and the East Branch and the story was the same, slow. I managed a fish or two nymphing in the mornings. At about 3:00pm some sulphers would start to come off and there were a few sporadic rises. If I was lucky I got to cast to a few fish every evening and managed one or two here and there. Got a big boost to my ego when checking out. The shop wanted to know what I was using because I was the only one there catching fish. Guess I'm an expert . All told I was pretty happy, got some fish and few real nice ones so while not a banner trip it was enjoyable.

I fished the main on the 24th. Stopped into a fly shop and got the scoop. Fishing is slow. I managed 1 9" brown, 1 bass, 1 shad, 1 18" rainbow which looked like it was caught 3 dozen times.

The week before was my best week ever. Caught more fish this day than probably 20 years combined. It was off the charts. Amazing how 1 week can differ so much from another. I probably won't be back up until the weather cools down a bit. Maybe Sept.

Hee is your fishing report for dcabarle:
Casting: c+
fish identification: B-
insect indentification: D
Rowing/wading: F

Just got back from the West Branch. 1st day high and stained water and didn't catch anything. The next two days had several fish nymphing but hatches were sparse and just didn't have an opportunity to cast to any risers. Rained hard the last night and the river was up and stained again. All told got some fish and enjoyed myself and that's what its all about. I'll tell the size and strength the fish up there really spoil me when compared to the stockers in New Jersey.

I went to the Gorge last night and caught a 6" brown. The water was 67 when I got there at 6 and was 65 when I left around 8. I forgot my wading boots, so that kind of crimped my style and had to fish off the bank.

67degrees, wet wade you boob...;)

I am such a pussy. I didn't want to get my nice shoes wet. I didn't used to be that way. Really. Does anyone have any man pills they can spare? Next thing you know I'll be asking about dress sizes and pumps. I may need an intervention.

Im fine and still slinging line. Im still up there but dont run into you much? Maybe because this time of year im too busy cleaning algea off my fly and line.

It's tough fishing up there now. The Main is too hot and the WB is too packed and not many places to put in and take out unless you want to float 12 miles. I wish they would fix the Hale Eddy boat ramp. If they did this, I'd be up every weekend. I floated the main from the last week in April until the first or second week in July then it got too hot.

Went up Saturday only stayed 3 nights. Rain was an issue. Not many bugs or risers but did have one decent evening. Most on nymphs and some guys were doing well with streamers. One afternoon I was concentrating on my drift when a voice says look at her Mr. fisherman, after my drift ended I looked up 3 girls in kayaks and one with no top on. She wasn't anything to look at. Just my luck.

Some guys have all the luck! The boob hatch is a once in a lifetime event. Even more rare than the Coffin fly.

I remember the Labor Day mask hatch two summers ago on the West Branch, it was a sight to behold. Some guy floating down the middle of the river in a kayak. Should have taken a picture, but I was too busy trying to be a super spreader fishing without one.

Had a pretty good day nymphing a Pocono river yesterday. The water was cold but could have been a touch higher for my liking but it didn't seem to matter to the fish.
I had a good mix of holdover rainbows and wild browns, with my best fish being a solid 24" brown.

I'm a tightlining nymphing snob. I did a lot of terrestrial fishing during the summer and caught a ton of small creek trout. But when it comes to larger fish it's nymphs or meat streamers.

If I'm nymphing, I'm tight lining. I don't really nymph too often, I'd rather just sit around until I see heads but every so often, to kill time... That's what I'll do.

I got the skunk yesterday. Plenty of bugs hatching and nary a nose or even a swirl all afternoon.

Where were ya? I hate when this happens! Looks like it's going to be an awesome day then zilch. Luckily, it doesn't happen often but the last time I went out, I got the skunk unless you include two 9" fall fish and a rock bass. I don't count those.

i was at the brodhead in analomink in the veild trout section. the leaves were bad, and I didn't see a fish nor could I raise one. even a black ant didn't work. is a slow day when you're in pa and can't catch something on an ant.

Got out yesterday morning for a couple hours on a NJ WTS. I thought that the water was going to be higher than it was but I still managed 9 small browns on a black Mini Chubby (insert wise cracks here). I was in the window of fairly calm winds and it wasn't till I was finishing up did the leaves start to become a problem.

Recently I have been experimenting using jig hooks for tying some of those larger foam attractor patterns. My thoughts are that I do like the way they have been working out. It appears that I have had a much better hookup ratio and believe that it is due to the sharper, more "sticky" hook points and wider gape that is typical of jig hooks.

Just got back from 4 days of steel heading on the salmon river. Was into 5-6 a day and boy were they hot. Mostly all chromers and quite a fight. I only managed to land a few but had some great fights. Wasn't to crowded until Friday so I had 3 good days of peace and quiet. Played around with a switch rod and thinking about picking one up. If anyone has any advice on switch rods please let me know.

I was fishing glo bugs. Was impressed with how much line I could get out and how easy it was to mend with the switch, also, thinking about swinging.

Do you know Tom Khoury? He just posted a nice pic on FB... MF'er... wait'l I have a word with him. :) Love Tom, great guy.
