Salmon River Report 2011

WAI # 16

vBulletin

It is a very tough one to locate because the view is straight across the river with no land marks to guide you.

WAI #16 is located below Rt. 2A and above the DSR.

WAI #6 was the SNAGGERS POOL

Well believe it or not, I have not fished much below 2a other than the trout brook area and the papermill, well until the DSR. Looks like I need to explore some this year.

There are some very nice spots to fish between Rt. 2A Bridge and the Ball Park that yes, we will hit those areas this year for sure.

Re: Salmon River Report 2011 - Where am I ?

#16--just below the 2a bridge south side?

#16 is a very difficult one.

The photo was taken much farther down river from the RT 2A / Compactor area.

I have never seen a drift boat pass by.

It is a tough one, just glad it isn't me trying to guess ...

That's because you're taking a picture looking at the south side of the river standing on the other side of the island that is is below the slate hole there. It dumps in and makes a right hand turn down the island into a deeper hole. Or I could be way off.

Well, I finally put up one that was difficult to guess.

I don't think it was really fair, there are no noticeable features that you can see
to seperate it from any other section of the river.

Like metalslayer, I too was thinking at first that it is the water below 2a. But given that it is between the Town Pool and the DSR... the picture looks to be taken from the north bank, with the current flowing from left to right. The broken water closest to the south bank would seem to be forming a side channel splitting off from the main river. The only water that I can think of in that stretch like that, is the tail of the Staircase Pool, and the tail of the Black Hole. It's been a while since I fished either of those two locations, but I'm guessing it's the tail of the Black Hole?

I do not see the aqua green water at the tailout, indicating the shit pipe at the black hole..Therefore, im going with the staircase area...

There is no doubt that WAI #16 was the hardest to date.

Looking straight across a river to a non-descript bank is hard unless you fish that area on a regular basis.

The name of WAI #16 location is JORDAN'S RUN.

It is located below the Staircase and just above the Coho Hole, closer to the Coho Hole.

If you know where the drift boat haul out is located on Bridge Street, this section of the
river is located about 100 yards down stream of that point.

Pineville dam release at its summer flow rate of 185

Currently at 0115 it is

5.49 FT

That looks like the Paradise pool, taken from north side of the river, pre-October 2010 flood.

I am thinking of heading up to the SR this Saturday to check things out. The DSR opens for the season and I need to pick up my pass. Good excuse, right?

It was 48 degrees at 6am today at home and the water is 68 in the river. Soon...

For this one I will post two photos of this spot to maybe make it more difficult or harder.

They were both taken on the same day.

The dam release remains at the summer time flow rate of 185 cfs.

As LyNcH had posted the DSR will open for the season this Saturday, August 27th.

We will open this coming Saturday at 6a.m. Opening time will be adjusted when the big runs start.

Aren't they all Mahoney's run? Haha....that was an easy one. I'll have to dig through some photos and see if I can find one.

This one should be easy....

Chris,

The 1st picture you took, you were standing on the old tressle just above the 2a bridge. You offered me a ride on your boat that day along with troutbum2live. I'm the guy at the top of the picture. I had a great day, learned some things and met 2 nice people. I'm sorry to say that I don't remember where the 2nd picture was from. God Bless and thank you for a great day and for your service to our country.

Flyman and AK are both correct. It's easy to pic out the pictures when you're in them. Haha.

Even though I WASN'T IN THE PHOTO's...

My first glance looking at the bank was Pinball Alley.

It was that little bit of water over the guy on the left shoulder that got me on the hunt.
Then I knew there was a small island back there.

Definitely a side channel shot. Looks like one of the channels that comes out below the schoolhouse and ellis cove.
