Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!

Sage 99 5wt rod is great

LyNcH

Dries, wets, nymphs and streamers...it's all good!
I've only had a chance to use the rod for a day so far, but I am in love with his thing. I lined it with a Rio's new indicstor 5wt line. The rod does as it says with ease as well as simply casts a single dry fly a mile. The line changes color about 30' into the body showing you where the load point is if casting beyond. The rod can shoot some line and also makes 10' casts perfectly. I would suggest this rod to anyone who enjoys fishing nymph rigs. Watch ebay and various fly fishing forums, you don't have to pay nearly $699 for this rod or you can also have one custom built for about $500 I would guess.

Coming from someone whose name suggests he snacks on dung for nutritrion, I'll let you be first in line to step up to the buffet line.

Now what exactly is your point btw.........sir?

Im glad to hear the rod performs well. As a big time nympher myself i was interested in one but couldnt spend that much on it.

I'm with you on the price and after casting it, I would be willing to spend half the retail on it ($350), although I could build it for about that. No lie here (why would I?)........I am an ebay hound.....got the rod for $205 shipped, new, in tube with paper wrapper, with warranty card.

Now who's the dingleberry?:nose-picking:

I'm sure it's another great sage rod but after a month getting to know my new 4100-4 Z-AXIS (10ft 4 piece 4 wt) I think it deserves a plug as well. If you can swing it, and find an equally ridiculous ebay deal, pick one of those up. You should be covered for most anything.

yep, it's a bit pricey... anybody cast yet the TFO Profession 10' 5wt yet? It's just under $200 and I was wondering.

Sage to me makes the best rods, I have two SLT's a 9' 4 pc 5wt, and a 9'5" 4 pc 8wt, both are great rods, the 8wt on the lower Delaware is outstanding for smallmouth, and I've used it on my pontoon boat for LMB on ponds and lakes.

I built a Sage BFG blank 8' 6wt back in 1983 which I use for nymphing on jersey streams.

All of the 99's are really cool rods if you like to nymph fish. The 995 is really cool for genearl all purpose indicator or dropper fishing. It's also exquisitely made and finished and has better "smoothness" than most rods I own. I have a 995, a 994 and a 998 as well and I like them all very much. I bought a Z-Axis 10' 4 as well and that rod is actually the best of the bunch. But these 99 Series rods by Sage are really worth looking at if you strictly nymph fish. I went with the Z because it's really more of an all around dry rod as well and the 99's aren't made for that, though you can certainly use them for it. Most Sages track better than any other rods do, with the exception of the Stream Dance Loomis blanks. The Sages also really do feel the best when casting, it's downright noticeable.
