I always get my cdc from the ducks that I shoot. It is way better than that store bought stuff. Not too many colors, but I don't think it matters. This stuff is very hard to sink, you almost need to get slime on it to not be able to get the water out by just casting.The left is from a hen mallard, the center from a drake greenwing teal, and the right is a mix of black duck and drake mallard, they are about the same hue. The teal feathers are small as is the teal, but they work fine.

Haven't been tying too much but this site your cdc. The fly on the top is tiny and a proven producer in the SBR here in Jersey...

Agreed, feathers from a freshly killed bird still smell like meat, you may as well be bait fishing.

After they start smelling like moth balls, you have to tie a more convincing looking fly.

Question for the pro tyers. It was my understanding that the CDC is what did the floating. Why hackle the fly if you are using CDC?
