Johnny Utah will be demonstrating how to tie a Zug Bug.
Hook- Johnny’s favorite Zug hook is the Mustad 3906/S80. He has been using this hook for years with no complaints to date.
Thread-Black 8/0, but fire orange, purple, and yellow add to the attraction of the pattern, other colors such as brown, and olive, can be used for more natural looks.
Tail- Peacock swords, they bunch up under water and give the fly a great taper.
Body- 2 peacock hurl taken from close to the center of peacock eye. You want the shorts hurl fibers. 2 hurls for size #14 & #16, 3 hurls for 10s and 12s. 1 hurl for 18s on down.
Rib- Fine Holographic silver tinsel and fine or xsmall silver wire.
Wing case- Natural mallard flank
Hackle- Died brown Hungarian partridge very sparse and clipped on top. Or speckled hen/ brown hen

So you will need the following materials;
Peacock swords
Peacock eyes
Thread in 8/0
Hooks 14 or 16 nymph hook
Fine silver holographic tinsel
Fine/extra small silver wire
Any brown soft hackle feather
Mallard flank natural color

The Zug Bug is a proven producer. Here is a nice Wild Brown from a local freestone. Proof is in the catch!

The meeting will start at 7:00 - 9:30 PM @ MWA Resource Center, 10 Maple Ave, Asbury,
NJ. Learn not only how to tie the featured fly(s) or your favourite fly, but get advice on what to use in the upcoming season from experienced members.
• Having trouble with tying a fly?
• Never tied before?
• A little cabin fever?
Bring your vise and materials to our Tier’s Round Table, learn a new fly or get help from other members. Never tied? No problem we will have vises and tools available to try your hand. We ask all members that do tie your own flies to come out and help your fellow members. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Fredy Fredy@ridgeandvalleytu.org
If any members have an extra vise and don’t mind bringing it, please do so. We might have some members looking to learn.
Note: Please remember to bring a light for your vise, lighting conditions in the building are not as bright as you may like.
Lowes sells the folding Ott light for $35 and its also rechargeable, it’s the lowest price I have found locally!
