my buddy and i were fly fishing for bass and bluegill in the delware yesterday. the action was slow, but on my second cast i get a 2lb large mouth. then rate before we live i have a huge sunfish inhale my popper. it was a green sunfish, its weight is 1.5lbs and 10 in long. i cant kind the record green sunfish for Pa. the only thing i see is the bluegill record.

I can't find it either...

It's possible that either PA doesn't keep records of green sunfish, or the record is open.

If you want to pursue this, I'd suggest you contact them.

See:
Pennsylvania State Record Fish
for contact information, rules, link to forms, & etc.

I haven't been a member since 1991, but back then, most of the records for green sunfish were unfilled, including flyfishing records.

For comparison, records for other states are at
Green Sunfish Fishing Records
Some are larger, some are not.

are fly fishing records different? after i take pics, could i freeze it?
I have no idea what kind of records PA keeps.

The IGFA has an "all tackle' record for the largest fish taken. It also has "line class" records.

In flyfishing the IGFA had "tippet class" records.

They may need to examine your entire leader and a sample of your line.
It's been so long that relying on my memory would be foolish, and things can change.
Read their rules. They're very strict....

green sunfish pics! i just weighted it again and it was 12oz. how could it lose weight in the refrigerator wrapped in wet cloths

Same scale? If so, you probably need a better scale, if you're going to chase records.

If a "certified" scale shows a weight of less than a pound, the IGFA probably isn't interested (unless they've changed the rules since 1991). The minimum weight (in 1991) for any record, was one pound, regardless of species, or whether or not the "tippet class" record for the species was unfilled.

Again, I can't speculate about PA. Some of the states listed on the last link in my first reply show records of less than a pound.

PA may not even have Green Sunfish on the record books.

Other problem is (judging by the pictures) that this likely is not a Green Sunfish... looking at the shape of the pectoral fin and the size of the mouth I would say that fish is a Bluegill or possibly a Bluegill-hybrid. Green Sunfish have much larger yappers (like a Warmouth or Rock Bass), more rounded fins (like a bass) and vivid whitish-blue worm-like markings on the gill plates.

Nice fish though... good filleting size. :)

I think that is some kind of sunfish cross. It seems like a redbreast x pumpkinseed cross to me. I agree with Dizzy's greenie comments.
