Detailed Report

I was fishing a new section of a very popular river. The water conditions on the river were a bit too much for my liking. The chocolate milk made it hard to see, and the current would kick your leg from underneath you in knee to waist deep water. As a general note the further I was upstream the faster the water.

My plan was to fish the majority of the river with pre-planned access points until I hit a very popular section. I started upstream and worked my way down.

On my first stop, a guy said that the fly rod would be too big for this section. I thought about getting the ultra light, but I didn't. I got into fish pretty quickly by fishing water I could read. I picked up my first brown on one of my first few drifts (Fish and section I caught it pictured below). After moving to the next spot I had the same results. (Section I caught it pictured below). Eventually I ended up with a beat up rainbow (Fish and section I caught it pictured below). Of course a sign would kill my progress  lol

Now I was off to my next access point. This place had a deep holes and narrow passages. Within minutes of being there I missed what would have been my biggest freshwater fish to date. The fish peeled my line took me down to some roots, or underwater debris. I thought I was snagged for about a minute or two. I started pulling my line with all my might trying to snap the line or free the hook. Just as I'm about to snap the line I feel the line give a little and something big came darting up just below the surface, flashed, shook its head and threw the hook!! After a snag or two on this tight section I ended up pulling the creek chub from this same spot, and missing another hit. I also stumbled across a mountain tributary that I followed until it was completely covered by brush/vegetation. I wasn't prepared for such a task but I"LL BE BACK. I took a few pictures at various points on the tributary. I took a few pictures of the brush/debris piles, stream and trib.

After all of the above my legs were like spaghetti from the walking and hiking I had done for a few hours at that point. I pushed on to the next access point that was pretty popular and arguably hard to fish. It wasn't too my liking it wasn't that deep and was like chocolate milk. It looks like the only way to fish this stretch is to fish the pockets along the shorelines. I spent only a few minutes here and didn't have any hits or catches. I will have to dedicate a couple hours to this stretch one day.

I spent a good amount of time @ one other access point. Here a older guy was fly fishing, another was casting worms (he caught about 4 bows in 15 - 20 mins), and another spin fishing. The guy fly fishing might have caught something, it looked like he was cleaning a fish on the river. I didn't catch anything but the bottom here.

I found a few additional access points throughout the day but I didn't stop to fish any. I just made note of the locations for another trip. At this point after not having a fish on my line for a bit, I debated on heading to another river for some revenge, just ending the day, or going to a lake to see what I can come up with.

I went to a reservoir. Here the action was very slow. I linked up with a guy (John) that I fished with for a couple of hours. He was fishing shiners & lures without any success. But I did manage to catch a few Bluegills with the fly rod. There was another guy fishing that caught a 12inch bass, a nice size bluegill, and a beautiful 18inch bow all on worms.

Yesterday would of been a good day for birding. I saw what I believe was a oriole and a couple other colorful birds. No bears were sighted today, but I did see a snake. What kind of snake is about about a foot maybe longer, black with a white line down its back. It caught me off guard so I didn't have time to snap a picture :(
