Late Summer poconos

MACFLY

Too many streams too little time
I made a quick trip up to the poconos Thursday evening. I managed to get a few weeks ago as well after a 3 day rainy cool spell made the rivers fishable. The 2 trips combined were the first time I fished up there in the summer since 2010. This time last year those rivers were puddles. Going imto this season I was really thinking it was gonna be tough but the fishing has been decent. When I fished a few weeks ago I did so in a steady rain that didn't seem to brother the fish much. I had good success on isos and Cahills fished in the faster water. Thursday night saw an amazing number of bugs on the water. Cahills up to a size 12 but man they looked huge:) hebes, small olives, caddis of varying sizes and Isos were all present. The other thing I noticed was how healthy the fish looked. The pic below is of a smallish rainbow but man was he fat. What a difference a year makes. The rivers are in good shape and the cooler weather is really making a difference. Hope it continues:) just a beautiful evening on the water. Wish it wasn't getting so dark so early. Fish were still eating!!!

I've always loved late fall fishing. For whatever reason, the fish seem more willing to take a chance...

They'll take a poorly presented fly from a totally unskilled fisherman.

This is the best time of year for the beginning angler, or to take a friend along who has never caught a fish.

Are you asking to come with me next time I go?
