Vintage Milward Flycraft

Hi All,
Great site! My name is Glenn, I live in NY and look forward to chatting with you. I've fished for over 40 years but am new to fly fishing. I was wondering if anyone had any info on the reel pictured below. It's copper colored, 3 1/8" across the center and says Milward (Made in England) Flycraft. It is in working condition except for the handle, the handle pin is there but the wood or bakelite piece and screw or rivet is missing. It has a beautiful clicking noise when you reel it. I am sending it in for a tune-up / cleaning and handle repair. I'm looking for backing and fly line amounts / recommendations. I would like to use it on a 10'6" nymph rod, do you think that would work out for me? I was also wondering how old the reel was.
Sincerely,
Glenn

Hey Glenn, Im new here as well but saw this thread on your Milwood reel.

I don't know much about them except what I could get from the internet and that is it's not very sought after, just a respectable middle of the road in it's quality.

Just wanted to mention I have a match for your reel and that is a split bamboo rod made by Milwood.
I got it off eBay a few years back with he intention of trying my hand a rod restoration butI never did get around to it.
It needs some new wrapping and the butt needs to be re-seated, maybe some day right.

I'm not trying to sell it to you or nothing, just striking up a conversation and saying hello in the same.

Hey Bruce, thanks for the welcome and info....nice to meet you. I see you're in Sullivan county, I used to live there and still have family there. I'd bet my last dollar we know alot of the same people. Looking forward to talking more. Glenn
