Deerfield 7/9

Jumping on the bandwagon of trip reports, since this place seems to be heating up....I was up in Western Mass this weekend for an engagement party and had a chance to fish the Deerfield. Awesome river. Turns out my brother in-law grew up on the banks of a very productive stretch of water. Simms pointed me in the direction of some great water and we all put some fish on the board in pretty short order. My brother in-law had never touched a fly rod in his life, but it didn't stop him from bagging 2 wild rainbows. He was wearing board shorts.

Love the wild bow... I've been looking to hit the Deerfield for quite some time now as it's 2 hours from my house.. definitely worth the drive?

Yeah, it's definitely worth it. I had someone give me pretty specific advice on when/where to go which, in hindsight, helped alot. The flows on the river fluctuate alot, and there are many different sections of the river that are all controlled by different dams/different release schedules. Lemme know if you're going and I can tell you the sections that I fished. All the release schedules are online. If you know Simms, he would be a better resource as I got all my intel from him...
