need fish I.D. help...

I sure hope someone can help me clear up a mystery that happened yesterday on Buffalo Creek in Buffalo, NY. I hooked a fish and fought it for around 3 to 4 min. before it came unbuttoned about two feet from my feet. A little back ground first would help here. I'm 53 years old, have fished this area for the last 10 years and have about 150 days a year on the Lake Erie tribs. Eye site is good and I do not drink. The fish I hooked hit like a typical trout, the no-no-no head shake when hooked, twisting of the body and rolling to spit the hook. I got several REALLY good looks at this fish and the thing that has me mystified is that the top 1/4 of this fish was YELLOW GOLD, not dark gold or any other color but BRIGHT YELLOW GOLD. The sides were bright silver and a silver/white belly. No spots that I could make out but he was twisting pretty well. My first thought was sucker but no wide bottom, no underslung mouth, and the tail was pretty square, no extended peck fins. Second thought was Walleye, but again, wrong body shape, fins, head shape ect. Third thought was Bullhead, but again ruled out as this fish had scales, not large ones but small scales, and the body and head shape of a trout. The fish was 8-10 in long. Any help? My guess is a young Brown with a very stange color pattern. Any one had one like this?

Could it have been a palomino rainbow trout?

Here is a pic of one I found on-line:

Sounds like a Palomino. They stock these in some of the L.E. Tribs in Pennsylvania. Could have moved into the creek from PA or it could be a NY odd ball.

Thanks to you guys.....I was afraid someone would think I was nuts. It sure looks like that is what I hooked. He must have gotten mixed up with a batch of stockies and released into the creek. Leave it to me to get the oddball's. I caught a 38" musky in the same creek on an egg pattern and was told that you can not catch Musky on an egg pattern. What do I know, I was born in Louisianna. We were never taught any better. LOL.

Again thank you for the help.

I have a terrible time navigating large rocks and boulders, loose gravel and holes sober, much less after a few. LOL We get a few Lamprey in this creek and I always kill them. I saw what I "thought" was a Lamprey wedged up under a boulder in about two foot of water and as a good sportsman went to pull it out to throw it up on the bank. NEVER, NEVER grab a huge Snapping Turtle by the tail and yank hard. This really makes them mad and they can move damn fast when they want to. This was the closest I ever came to walking on water. I think there is still an imprint of my body on that section of bank.
