Klinhammer hooks?

Andre

The Bamboo Guy!
Do they make these hooks or do you have to bend regular hooks? If they make them where can I get some? Thanks in advance

Andre,
I think you are talking about hooks for tying a klinkhammer? The parachute emerger type fly?

If so, use a tradional curved hook (scud hook)
Daiichi 1130's is one example
PM me you're address, Ill send you a bunch of these flies I have just sitting here, if those are actually what you are trying to tie.

Klinkhammer Hooks

Andre:

Go to this link for the entire history and other tying info on the fly - it is written by Hans Van Klinken. In it he even talks about the misinformation about the fly that has been passed around over the years. It's interesting, and really shows how creative fly tyers can be when tying for their own needs or when they lack the same materials as the original fly was tied with.

I have seen Klinkhammer hooks made to the specifications in the referenced article - I think they were by Partridge, but I'm not sure.

I use scud hooks and they work OK, but the original has a straight section behind the eye for the post rather than a continuous curve like a scud hook.

Jeff you are right about the hooks being made by Partridge. They are called Gray Shadow Klinkhammer hook's #GRS15ST. Hope this helps Andre. :)

Based on a recent FAOL thread, the GRS15ST has been renamed the 15BN. It is sized substantially larger than typical hooks. Recommendations on that thread were to order one or two sizes smaller than what you want. Also, the Partridge 15BHX is reportedly the same hook but requires no modification. It already has the "bend". If you search for that thread on FAOL, you'll find pictures of the hooks -- and all that info I just reguritated.

A appropriately bent 200R was cited as the most frequently used substitute.

OH NO!..... Andre fishing a Klinkhammer!!! All fish in NJ, The Allentown area springs and the Catksills will now have "attended school". Andre will :judge: them. Our catch rate is going to fall precipitously! :)

Kidding aside, this is a great pattern. Easy to tie and boy does it catch fish! :applaudit

Slightly bend a 200R hook with your vice.
That's how I was taught and it works.
