Last night, after a nice Valentine's day my wife said to me "why don't we head up to the gorge on Sunday". I didn't need to be asked twice.

Got to the gorge about 1030am and fished for 2 hours with a small stonefly and scud combo. Nothing doing, switched over to BHHE with a jailbird nymph dropper. Started to get hits and lost a nice fish.

Now I've been flyfishing about 15 years and have caught a lot of nice fish, many to about 18 inches, but have never cracked to 20" mark. Well today I landed a rainbow that did tape out at just over 20" . About a 1/2 hour later I landed a 17 incher both took the jailbird. Fished a bit longer and that was it for the day. I went home happy.

On a side note, I was talking to a few guys when I went back to my truck for lunch, I went back to fishing and my wife continued talking to these fellows and it turns out they were Dr. Gonzo and JamieP, sorry I didn't get to introduce myself, maybe next time.

Nice talking you today and congratulations on the fish. I didn't do quite so well but I did manage to land my first Sucker on a fly rod

Man, everybody had good luck at the Gorge today except me, huh? Got there around 2:15, fished a scud behind a pheasant tail with an indicator for about 45 minutes before I lost it. Saw some stoneflies flying around and decided on a little black caddis to also serve as an indicator, and trail a scud behind that as I saw tons of those as well. Well, that kinda backfired when the scud was pulling the caddis under, so I switched to a 16 or so stonefly nymph with a scud behind that, also with an indicator, and no luck there either. Decided to pack it in as the sun started going down and the fingers began to get numb. 4th time in a row I've been skunked at the Gorge over the past couple weeks, but I guess it comes with the inexperience.
