Saturday morning I set out for a tour of PA streams with a final stop at our NJ Pequod.
I had hoped to begin nymphing and finish up with a a little dry fly action, however the day was to be about bottom dredging with only an occasional splashy rise throughout the day.
My first stop was at stream S where I landed a good half dozen browns including a very nice 19" hook jawed male.
And another brown that measured in at around 17"
All fish at stream S were taken on a scud pattern of one form or another in sizes from 12-16.
My next stop was at stream B, where I fished another stretch that is not stocked. This stretch yielded another good number of wild browns from 8" up to 15".
All the fish at this location were taken on a size 16 purple UV ribbed with orange hot spot.
I headed up to stream M where I had expected to see some fish rising late in the afternoon, but except for a good number of caddis in the air, I saw no fish rising. I took a couple of small rainbows on the nymph pattern mentioned above.
My last stop was back in NJ at the infamous Pequod TCA stretch. I knew I was back in NJ as these were the first anglers I had seen all day, along with the blue plastic worm containers and discarded drink bottles littered along the river.
I netted a number of smaller rainbows and one solid fish of about 17" that actually managed to put a bend in the rod equal to the smaller browns of PA.
All these fish were taken on a size 18 purple midge with orange hot spot.
