Do you consider frogs fanny to be floatant?

no..its an agent that completly dries the fly to float well..just like it did when you tied it on and it touched the water for the first time..gink,aquel and numerous other gels out there are floatants..and if used too heavily on a fly they will actually start to sink it.

Pitbull: Word is that you are a muscle bound bird brain.

Which makes you my perfect bodyguard.

Pitbull, I will be making an appearance at boo fest. I will be surrounded by enemies, some of whom may want Beetle dead.

I will pay you in beer: Ronbo's home brew.

And perhaps I will have Simms serve you roasted pig...

How's that sound?

Based on the ingredients it is only a dessicant ( hygroscopic powder or media) If you could somehow recover what you apply to the fly you could regenerate it simply by baking it in the oven and it could be reused

Dessicant. I find dessicants strip off "floatant" so you need to use them more and more once you start. Frogs Fanny is also UV reflective which helps IMHO. Like dessicants for itty bitty flies more. Like a cloth to dry bigger flies. I use Frog's Fanny and those shake bottles and they are convenient.

Silicone sort of seals the fly against moisture so the dubbing/hackle/wing doesn't pick up moisture. No synthetics are truly hermetic - only metal coatings are. Therefore, silicone only slows pickup of moisture, it doesn't stop it.

I've found that if I place my dry fly(and attached tippet) into a snack size zip lock bag and seal the seam with super glue, my fly NEVER gets wet and floats like a cork ALL DAY. Two outta three problems solved!

I'm still workin' on how to hook fish...

sorta like baked mac and cheese.. u goin up to e branch soon? i will be up for a week nxt wk..let me know if your around.

I dont use the crap. I have had one to many back peddling complex refusals because that white crap was on the fly.
I soak all my dries in hydrostop by loon then allow them to dry overnight. Generally its not the water itself that causes the flies to sink. Its the fish spit and filth in the film. So with the hydro stop on the fly you just have to do a little rinse with your finger and thumb in the water to get the slim and dirt off , and false cast, she is floating like new. Give it a try.:)

I have to give the plastic bag a try though! :)

I may be very wrong but, If you aren't using frog's fanny to make your fly more buoyant, what are you using it for? Does it have any other use than as a floatant?

They say it works wonders on nymphs. It forms air bubbles all around the body.

Brother T.T. for you

Frogs Fanny is awesome if you use CDC on your flies , especially the flies that you want to lay low in the water . I've heard the best way to keep CDC dry is 1) hit with amadou 2) a little tiemco dry fly magic 3) frogs fanny . That's what the veterans on the Henry's Fork use . If it works there , don't show me where it doesn't work , I don't wanna go.

if you have any frogs as pets and they eat too many spicy worms and get a chapped burning ass,,then this frogs fanny brushed up and down there ass crack will cool and sooth..
