I'd rather have the pastries.

Kidding. That gun brings back memories of woodcock shooting along the Whippany River in Pine Brook and the Passaic in East Hanover back in the 70's. My buddy had one of those guns and as we were young teens and had little money to spend, we purchased the cheapest shells that we could buy at Two Guys. At the time they had a Polish paper shell I believe was manufactured by Poloxoid, or something like that. They were so cheap that every time he fired his gun and broke it open to reload, the extractor would shear off the brass head and we would have to dig the empty out with a knife. He would get pissed because there were so many birds getting up (best woodcock I can remember) and he would be fiddly fuckin' trying to reload that he rarely would get another shot off.
Good luck with your new purchase. I hope you shoot a s/s with double triggers better than I because I could never find that second trigger.

I actually prefer double triggers, never had a problem. It actually helps me slow down a bit on my second shot. I usually rush my first shot and them stone them on number two, plus I like them if a bird jumps far I can just give em the second barrel full choke.

Fine gun. I had one back in the early eighties. Like an idiot I sold it. The gun was solid and the lockup was like the day it left the factory.
I have a fine Italian SxS 20ga. The double triggers are a plus indeed.

The bird dogs are cool.

I think the bird dogs and their owners have a relationship that gives the dog a full life. Talk to a bird hunter, and they have high regards for their dogs, and will talk about a good dog that died 20 years ago...

I prefer fishing, and take my dog with me to the water. I don't care if he spooks the fish.

if you want to get that double looking like new i can give you the name of a good shop in the midwest. They have done a few for me. Nice purchase!

I love my 16ga Fox Sterlingworth. My grandfather gave it to me for a pheasant hunt we went on right before he passed away. One of my most sentimental guns I own.

Wb,I'm torn on getting it redone or not. It's a hunting gun and it retains about 90% of the bluing. It only has a little case color left but I'm good with that. The only thing I was thinking was getting the stock done to take off the varnish and just teak oiling the wood. I paid so little for the gun I should put some money into it but I like the character of old used guns

Nice gun Mike. You'll enjoy hunting with it. I have the same in a 20, but haven't used it in years, stock a wee bit too short.

Don't spend money of a refinish, not worth the money on a Savage Fox and detracts from the value on an AH Fox. The stock will come up nicely with some 000 steel wool and Zip Strip if needed, then some 0000 steel wool and several coats of boiled linseed oil, buff it with burlap in between coats. A little elbow grease will give you a durable and as good as new looking stock.

Now go and collect some tying feathers and some tasty dinners :)
