Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!

If I could only pick one it would probably be Eastern Fly Fishing only for the fact its main focus is in the region I do the vast majority of my fishing. But just for reading I really enjoy fly fishing journal. Whats everybodys favorite and why?

i like fly fishing journal too, drake isnt bad either but sometimes it has a little too much of the colorado ski bum/trout bro extreme sport new era of fly fishing vibe to it which I find annoying. A bit off topic but a good read I just started that isnt a magazine but very useful has been "learning from the water by Rene Harrop. lots of good info and great pictures

When the drake arrives, I usually read it cover to cover. Don't do that with most others. Hopefully I can pick Rene harrop's new book tomorrow at the show. Thanks for the tip.

its def a good publication, and its been awarded for that, but it has a unique style to the writing that I think some people enjoy and others are less fond of. Its also a bit more story based rather than informational which is something I do like about it for a change of pace in reading other magazine material.

Eastern FF is also my favorite, with Fly Tyer as my favorite fly fishing related magazine. I subscribe to 5 FF magazines, but they do not include Drake. I purchased a copy based on recommendations but it was not what I was looking for. I do have a shelf full of books by the likes of Robert Traver, Roderick Haig-Brown, Charlie Fox, Arnold Gingrich, and others when I feel like a good story.

I either do or have subscribed to all the mags over the years. The Drake is the only one I can't put down and read cover to cover and then repeat. I can't recall re-reading any other fly mag stories other than those in the Drake. But I am an old ski bum at heart and Tom Bie is my same age, so it's right up my alley. I also get bored with the same old stories (It's late April, time to fish the Hendrickson hatch or summer is for sulphurs).

Just like on Seinfeld, it seems that everyone loves the Drake. Indeed the Drake is a great publication. I also really enjoy Flyfishing & Tying Journal.

I get Eastern Flyfishing & FlyFisherman (pretty bored with FF tho) My favorites are both U.K
publications. #1 is Fly Fishing & FlyTying the other is Trout, which is mostly stillwater with some river/ stream fishing.

For anybody who doesn't already have a subscription to eastern fly fishing they were selling them for $15 for the year. One of the shows better deals.

I subscribe to all the major magizines and quite frankly, I think they're all basically the same! The same well-known "experts" are published in all of them, and the more manuscripts they sell, the easier it is for them to make a living. However some very good stories come along every now and then from anglers who are not as well known, but none-the less are extremely knowledgeable in certain aspects of fishing. From my point of view, the best publication is the particular issue that has one or more unique stories of special interest that I can relate to the waters I fish. I'm constantly searching for new ideas and how to solve problems.

This is exactly the reason that the Drake rocks. You will NEVER see the same old stories from the same old stand bys. Never. Check it out for yourself. I remember when it was only a once a year mag.

The best thing about Drake is the price:
Five bucks for fly fishermen, ten bucks for bait fishermen!

So the Drake proved again why I like it so much.

The current issue has an article about Many Glacier Lodge in Glacier National Park, where my wife and I spent a week in 2000 before kids came along. It was a complete memory lane read, Avalanche Lake, Kootenay Lake, phantom grizzlies around every corner....everything.

Glacier National Park (and Waterton NP) is the most majestic place I've ever been.

Can't wait to return.
