Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!

To think that wading or floating is the only way is ridiculous. It is whatever you enjoy when fishing. It makes me laugh to think that some guy's buy a boat get on the river maybe 15-20 times a year (if that) and think they know whats best and that all of the waders should go away.I hear that often

I wade about 70% of the time, and do like to float, but I like to float with higher water or when my boys fish with me.They love floating..

Personally I'm more effective Wading because I can choose my angles and distance and I know where all of my pets live.Effective meaning I do catch more fish when I wade.

Ive been out more times this year than most guys will fish for the season, and you know what I haven't been in a pool yet with another fisherman, and have had a total of 8 boats go buy me.

For me it's about only one thing- Headhunting..Yeah Yeah the scenery is great, oh it's so nice, it's about the float down the river, bullshit not for me if I want that I could stay in my backyard. ...I go to whack big slobs on dries period. No Nymphs, No streamers, No blind casting just looking for BIG heads slurping aquatic insects.

Gentlemen like anything else in life, One size doesn't fit all.You do what's best for you.

Fly-14 - I really sincerely hope you become a super lawyer one day and make 7 figures every year..That's why we live in the the USA, so that everyone has the opportunity to make as much money as they wish to.

Your Dad did a great job and I'm sure he's proud.Good luck

Joe, what a great post. You said it all. So true that if one is willing to walk and explore, there are plenty of places which are are uncrowded. Those of us who have been fishing the system for many years know the spots and places other than the WB No Kill.

As far as floating is concerned, I'm looking forward to floating this week with my son who is 21. He's very excited about learning to fly fish. So for those of you complaining about fat or skinny asses in a boat and putting people down who enjoy this type of fishing ....keep complaining. I could care less what you think.

Hope to fish with you next week

Well said, JOE T. I can't recall a single issue with boaters when I wade in all my years on the WBD, myself. I go looking for heads like you do and I get picky at which heads I'm going to pursue. It's never about numbers for me, just going for quality, finicky wild fish on a dry fly. That said, I float now and then and enjoy that for different reasons. But my best days have almost always been wading days. Let the boats move on - they have to at some point - and I'll catch the rising fish that the clients can't catch in the drift boats or the ones they don't see along their way.

Yes we'll hook up for sure, you can pick me on the bank somewhere if you can fit me in the boat.I'm bringing binoculars so that we could bird watch along the way.

Oh and don't forget we got to get off the river early so we don't miss out on the early bird specials in Hancock.

I was up thur and Fri. I could not believe the amount of boats. There were many more boats then waders. I don't understand the boaters bitching about waders. You guys can go many other places but always seem to set up and pound the same fish. That being said I had a decent trip and really wasn't bothered by boats. I just hate when they drift over my risers. A little courtesy goes a long way. If you see someone working risers get out and drag the boat behind them instead of drifting over them.

You hit the nail on the head, just some courtesy would make a world of difference.

As soon as the water levels drop the waders will hit the rivers in full force on D system, it'll be like ant's heading back to there hill.

I agree Mike. This is why I have you in my boat...to push:)

I get where CDun is coming from, but I think I just found my new avatar!

I think you all bitch and moan too much. You all need to get over yourselves. Having said that, I like the drift boat better than wading most of the time, it lets you cover tons of water during the day and be in the sweet spot for the spinner fall in the evening, you have your cake and you eat it. Having said that, there are ways to wade, cover lots of water, and be in the sweet spot for the spinner fall without driving around or sitting in the same area all day. There is a very simple solution, think about it, but its not for the lazy.

Jeez make your mind up already

What I find frustrating is when the drift boats stack up in pools that are close to river access to wading anglers. If I was drifting I'd want to try some new area's, hopefully away from the waders.

Now we are at the heart of the matter. Even a 6 pack in a wading vest gets heavy pretty quick.

And drift boats have cup holders everywhere. Where you gonna put that can when you're wading? Nowhere, you have to shotgun every beer.

I have a couple of boats, kayak, pontoon boat, even a Hyde but I never put any of my boats above Balls Eddy on the few weekends that I fish. Even below Balls Eddy there are some tight spots where it is either too shallow to go behind a wader so you pretty much have to go in front of him. Then I go as tight to the far bank as possible and don't row, just use the oars to stay in a straight line. Once you get down below the DRC campground the WB opens up pretty good and you have to be either ignorant, or very arrogant, to spoil a waders fishing.

I have no hesitation to float anywhere on the main stem. After you gain some experience rowing it is quite easy to give waders a wide berth and totally avoid them. There are times and places for all kinds of water craft. Some of us, and me in particular, are not as strong a wader as we used to be. I can still wade pretty good but I just don't feel confident enough to cross the main stem where I used to pretty much charge across it. Am I supposed to stop doing something I love to do? Hell no. So as long as I can still get the boat off, and back on, the trailer I plan on floating the main stem, during the week, from late April to the end of September.

I don't know how to edit my post so this should be considered an addendum to the original;

In my opinion (like it really matters lol) there should be a regulation that allows no drift boats on the upper East Branch from the covered bridge in Downsville down to the confluence with the Beaverkill. It would be naïve to think that all types of water craft should/would be banned from the upper EB. There are probably good numbers of recreational guys, and families, who like to canoe, or kayak, the river.

I'm also in favor of no drift boats on the upper West Branch from the weir down to the end of the No Kill. Then though it would be incumbent on NYS to construct a concrete ramp at Hale Eddy and design the parking area in such a way that people with trailered boats could turn the vehicle around and have a nice straight shot at getting onto the ramp like at Balls Eddy or Shehawken.

It would be nice if the powers that have input into the well being of the NYS rivers would construct a couple of concrete ramps on the lower EB from Jaws to Cadosia. Having one in between at Fishs Eddy would be nice too if one didn't want to do that long float. Currently there are no official NYS ramps on the lower EB (are there?) If there was ever a request for contributions to help defray the costs of these ramps I would be glad to contribute a meaningful sum to help out. I'd love to see a couple of real ramps on the lower EB.

Hello Jonstewart,

Okay, no problem, when are you going to start to build the ramp?

I'm far too young and handsome to be Jonstewart.

I also catch a lot of fish (something that Jonstewart struggles with).

People around here call me CDun, and although I was initially joking -- i'm totally down with the cause.

I'd like to see more boat launches on the Delaware System. Let your pal Cdun know if there's anything you need help with. :):)
