Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!

connetquot river fish kill

that's ridiculous - the fish in the mouth pic is over the top. I wonder if that's the same one that was partly decapitated in the next pic. I have no problem with people keeping fish legally - especially in the Connetquot where there's no wild fish to protect, that post borders on senseless violence. It's one thing to take your creel limit and another entirely to do that kind of stuff.

Did anyone read what the guy said in that other forum? He said that the fishing is legal because of a water-born virus or whatnot....then he puts the fish in his mouth?? He's no Ozzie, that's for sure.

That virus can't be transferred to humans, FYI.

I understand that, but to put the fish in your mouth? Classy.

That was certainly dumb as was posting the shot of the bleeding fish - just gives PETAphiles more ammunition to ban our sport. I just wanted to point out that disease couldn't be spread - we're on the same page:)

Definitely. Also, I wanted to say something about your quote, it has inspired me to grab a copy of Leopold's book, as I think I have a lot to learn from it.

I recently re-read A Sand County Almanac. Leopold had a way of being very plain spoken and so highly effective at getting his message of conservation out there that his work is still the benchmark by which all others will be judged. I gave a presentation last Sunday at the Morristown Library's annual FF dinner and used another quote of his, "There are some who can live without wild things, and some who cannot". I read it aloud and mentioned that I was one "who could not" and noticed most of the heads in the room nod in agreement.

Recently a reporter from the Daily Record who has covered some of my work on the Musky reached out to tell me she read A Sand County Almanac and suddenly decided she was a conservationist. She's now a TU member making plans to get involved with our work and she doesn't even fish!

And they clearly say the limit is 10 and he has 15 fish. Truly and idiot. And no one I would ever fish with twice.

Let me tell you guys something there is no way in hell would i eat a fish from a river thats infected with ipn the thing is they say its not harmful now but who knows in 10 years maybe it will i work in refrigeration alot of old timers used to vent and inhale refrigerant back in the day maybee back then they had no idea how harmful it was to themselves and the envoirment. Look at the effects it can have today. Some states have it pinned to being the cause of some respitory disease and cancer. so no i would not eat one of those bad boys for sure .

Just so you know, it is in most east coast marine waters. So don't eat stripers or bluefish or shellfish or seabass or fluke or...

You get the idea. Studies have shown it to be harmless in humans. Everything we eat is susceptible to some disease or another. Most diseases we never think about unless we know it to cause harm (like bovine "Mad Cow" disease). IPN is not a problem from everything I have read and the biologists I have spoken with about this. Me? I just don't like eating stocked hatchery fish and that's the only reason I'd pass on fish from the Conny.:)

I know i try not to eat too much fish from our waters not freshwater anyways especially because of the mercury levels and what not .
I get your point though:)

If they really want to clean out the "Diseased fish" why not just electrofish the damm stream and be done with it.
Because honestly do you think they will catch them all

Total disgrace, hope those guys choke on the bones they should be ashamed to even call themselves fly fisherman!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I want to swear so i'll just censor it myself. Those @#$%ing idiots dont know how to trout fish. When it becomes easy to catch a 16inch brown it should become easy to LET IT GO. They cant even eat that much fish. Idiots, holy @#$!ing sh$% that stream ranks as one of the most pressured most likely in the US why not leave some for the rest of long island.

You know the worst part is they don't have a clue how stupid they are!
