Classic Winged Wet Fly Swap

Andy B

New member
This swap is to test your tying skills and obtain some wet flies to fish with in the upcoming season. The swap is for classic winged wet flies only. Sorry no soft hackles please. The swap will be open to 13 tyers. That means if the swap is full you will have to tye one dozen of the pattern that you choose. Sign-up dead line for this swap will be Friday February 4, 2005. Flies will be due to me no later than Friday March 4, 2005. I will post my mailing address after the swap fills or the sign-up dead line comes and goes. Please provide me with the pattern that you are going to tye when signing up. If your not sure then please let me Know A,.S.A.P. For all those who always say I want to try fishing with wet flies here you go. Wet flies require patience and a honing of your skills to tie them correctly and beautifully. I will use this first post as a running list of tyers along with the pattern they choose. If any one needs help or tips on tying these classics, please ask and I will be glad to assist and or teach.

In the swap so far are the following tyers:

1) Andy B tying one show quality wet fly completely different for each tyer that signs up.

2) Rich T Tying March Brown Wets

3) Fly Tier Tying Light Cahill Wets

4) Catskilljohn Tying an Adirondack

5) Flyin Tying TBD

6) Wet Fly Guy Tying a Female Hendrickson

7) Jeff K Tying TBD

Only 6 spots left open

Andy,
Please count me in. I will tie a March Brown Wet.
See you at the show on Saturday.
Regards,
Rich T :D

Andy,
I will jump in here since wets are a pretty fast tie (At least when I tie them)
I will tie up some light cahills, they wont be show quality but they will be tasty looking. Just tell me how many.

Andy,I would like to join in,I will tie the Adirondack, size 10. See you on Saturday at the show! John

hmmm due Mar 4? I think I can do this.

Please sign me up.

Pattern TBD, but tentatively set at a Royal Coachman Wet,
because that is the fly I used to catch my first trout, caught
at the base of the trestle in the KLG. I had no idea what I was
doing, but a 5" wild brookie fell for the rudely swung wet fly.

I'll confirm the pattern next week.

Thanks to all who signed up so far. Welcome aboard. This swap is starting to shape up. * spots open for any one who wants to join. This swap will not be dissapointing to say the least. I feel some really good flies are going to come out of this swap. So come on tyers, time to test your tying skills with these classic forgotten patterns.

Welcome aboard wet fly guy. Nice to see and hear from you again my friend. Glad you joined. Only seven spots left open. Guys I can't tell you how beautiful these flies are and how affective they truly are. My wet fly swap on www.flyanglersonline.com was big sucess for the second year in a row. I really want to achieve the same thing here. If you never tied one then give it a try. This swap like all my others is open to all and all levels. I do not make fun at any ones work. All I ask is you give it a fair try and put your best foot forward. I to like all the others were once in the same shoes and understand how you might feel.

I would like to sign up. Likely a Telemarkskongen, but, may go to a Silver Doctor if I have time.

I did forget. I just accepted a new job last week and have taken this week to tie up all loose ends. Forgetting things right now and I am currently focused on starting the new job on Monday.

Andy, no prob. Just hope your "tying up loose ends" doesn't refer to any of the thread on the flies I tied.

Andy and all:

At the risk of this being yet another "they're in the mail" post, just wanted to let
you know that I did, in fact, just mail the flies today @ 1PM or so from the Middletown
NJ post office.

Sorry, I promised myself I wouldn't sign up for any swaps this year, but couldn't
resist this one. At any rate, they aren't pretty, but they might be able to
catch a brookie or 2. Royal Coachman wet flies.

Hi Rob:

Thanks for the time and effort. I am sure they will be just fine. Tying wet flies makes you use your skills and Brain. Tying these patterns correctly in appearance and proportions takes a lot of patience and practice. I will let you know when I receive them.

Andy B

Flyin and Catskilljohn:

I received Rob's flies Friday before I left to tie in a show up in Willaimsport PA this past weekend. Don Bastian invited me to tie in this show, I enjoyed being able to hang out with Don and Tom Balz and came home late Sunday night. Got home from work at 9:00 PM this evening and am now responding to your reply. Will be packaging flies on Wednesday and will be sending them out on the same day. Tired and now off to bed.
