March 2012 Fly Swap. Favorite Streamers.

Walter H

Stalking Mr. Brown on the Fly
I was wondering if anyone might be interested in joining me in doing a fly swap. I've never done one before, but I thought that it would be a cool thing to participate in and shake off some of the winter doldrums. Like many other guys, I LOVE to tie and fish meaty streamers. Albeit extremely effective, I get so tired of Wooly Bugger, and like to experiment with other patterns. If anyone is interested, please PM me or reply. I was thinking we could make the deadline March 15[SUP]th[/SUP]. As per the flies themselves, I would say exclude simple woolly bugger, and maybe stay away from some of the hardcore Carrie Steven’s/Rangley patterns. (Good intermediate ties like hair wings, matukas, zonkers, etc) I would be happy to contribute one of my patterns, or something less commonly used these days like a Thunder Creek minnow or one of the lesser known classic Hair wings.

thats a good idea my swap is finally wrapped up so im sure there might be a few guys interested i would leave the pattern open other than wooley buggers that way you see the more advanced patterns and can learn from them !!

I wouldn't exclude buggers for 2 simple reasons. 1 hands down its the deadliest streamer ever made. 2. It's a simple tie that beginners can handle, that can be tied in a million ways.

if YOU want wooly buggers then start a wooly bugger swap. you shouldnt have any doubles since there are a million ways to tie one

I concur, mostly since thats the only real streamer pattern i have down pat.

I'd give the clouser that designation personally. Would clouser's be excluded as well?

I'm on the fence with this one...got some tying conflicts going on right now

Just a suggestion but, whether you allow woolies or not i think the swap will be much more successful if you shoot for 2013.

I don't think Walter H. has earned enough NEFF capital in his 42 posts to run a fly swap.

Hey, a quick clarification..... March of 2013. (Sorry I keep doing that). For the record, I do like woollies, I think there are more interesting patterns to tie. (Somebody should do a clouser!) I'll be happy to either facilitate the swap, or just participate. (I merely submitted the propoosal). If anyone wants to participate, let me know.

There are so many different ways to tie a clouser, somebody should tie them. I love Clousers!!!!!!! I love the Buggers, it's just that they are literally the first pattern everyone learns to tie.

I have participated in 2 swaps in the last year. I sent out 12 flies in both swaps. Did not get one fly back. Am I missing something? Is fly swap a secret code for I have no flies and I am too cheap to buy them? So if I get 11 fools to send flies, I should be good for awhile.

tom your flies will come back jack ass dont doubt my swap you can blame it on the guys that joined in not me im just trying to get everyones flies together...

dont you worry i will have them all i tied an extra dozen just waiting for one batch that should be here any day !!
