boot recommendations

well I have two pair, one it the Simms Rivershed. The most comfortable boot i have ever owned. The other is the Korkers with the Boa lacing. I got to say they are great in cold weather and not having frozen, or just wet sandy laces. I like the idea the the three soles that come with it. I use the spikes for wading and felts or rubber bottoms if i am in a boat. And if Ny or Pa bans felt I am ready for it. my 2 cents

Korkers are a good deal. I'm not 100% sold on the boa lacing system. Sometimes they work great and other times I feel like they don't stay tight all the time. The removable soles are great as DLUVER indicated. Patagonia just came out with a new boot with an innovative boot that takes a different approach to getting traction on slippery surfaces. Of course you need a 239.00 dollars to buy them. I would wade barefoot like Cabarle:)

I purchased the Korkers Redside's, in the manly size 15 for about 100 bucks at Tight Lines in Pine Brook, they work great. They also have the changeable soles. I just hate they are made in China.

I suggest what ever you bye don’t spent too much. I learned the hard way. The wading shoe is the most abused piece of equipment. They are scraping against rocks constantly. $300 or $80 their going to ware out. Go for comfort try them on first with waders and heavy socks. I have a pair of Simms I paid under $70 and they are one size larger then my foot. I have bad knees and feet from skiing and football. If I personally do not buy shoes that are comfortable I am in agony by the end of the day.

The Korkers look interesting... I had a pair of snowboard boots with the Boa system and really did not like it. There are a pair of Korker without it - the Mudder Ducker boot! We may have a winner...thank you for the suggestions!

SIMMS RIVERSHED boot is by far the best boot... My father has the G4 guide boots and they are comfy, but wicked heavy...

Been wearing Korkers for years now.

Wouldn't wear anything else.

My buddy was sponsored my Nike and got $5k-$10k for photo ops. in magazines...whoa

I would have to disagree w/ Tomfly........I think you should spend your money on the few items that keep you comfy and dry. Your waders, your shoes and your raincoat. I have worn Simms for years..I favor the guide boot, however, I have tried the new Patagonia aluminum and the grip is pretty incredible.......and pricey. If going that route, I would opt for the river crampon, and wear it with a Simms Rivertread soled boot of your choice This would be the ultimate combo.
On another note, the anti semitic comments made by Mr. Simms are intolerable, crass, and have no place here.

my last pair were from orvis. I was not impressed, they hardly lasted a year with heavy use.

any suggestions?

Simms boots with the BOA system and some studs in the bottom.

I saw a suggestion for the new Pattagucci crampons. If you have the coin to spend on a $200 pair of crampons and a $150 pair of boots then I guess it's a route you could go.

I would just geat a pair of boots and stick some star cleats or studs in the bottom. Much better than paying $350 for some boots and Patagucci crampons.

Hey that wasn't a suggestion I was letting him know about a new boot and the ones I referenced are 239 with the built in crossbars. He may be rich and can afford them:) besides dint you iwon like the most expensive waders are on the planet:)

I would think twice about rubber soles if you fish anywhere known to be more slick. I use a pair of Simms up in VT, and they absolutely suck. Work about as well as old work boots or sneakers. The only place they're better than felt is on the hike to and away from the water. If your going the the rubber soled route, invest in a good wading staff.

2nd most expensive. I haven't bought the ones with the Zipper and I find my gear on sale or closeout. Only people with money can afford to pay retail for anything. Haha.

I'm another big proponent for Korkers. I generally leave in the soles that are felt with studs, but when in a driftboat or fishing skinny water will change them out to just felt or rubber soles. They have stood up very well over time, are comfortable and grip well.

I just bought a pair of Korkers...I have been using the rubber soles. I slip and slide a bit on rocks with plant life on them. If the rocks are clean and wet they are great. The studded soles are awesome as far as grip, but the noise they make, IMHO scare the fish right out of the water, so there is no need for fishing....:)

Yes, that's why when in small water where I won't be in much over my knees I take them out and go with just felt. In bigger/deeper water, especially in pocket water where they are most needed, I don't have any fear they are spooking the fish.

While a Simms guy for most my wading gear, I am a huge Korkers fan when it comes to boots. Studded rubber soles (not the studded klingon piece of crap soles) and studded felt.

Simms Freestone Boot, I have had these felt studded for four years and they keep on ticking, although I am replacing them this year. They are reasonable priced and comfortable. They discontinued the felt but are bringing it back in a month or two.

I have Simms freestone never liked them, too stiff. Getting a pair of Chotas this spring, heard a lot
of good things about them,

I like the felt soles.... It is great how they stay wet from stream to stream so they still give great traction without needing to be rehydrated.....can't beat em!!!!
