Auction For a Bamboo Classic and Bill Ballan Fly Reel

MACFLY

Too many streams too little time
Since its Christmas Time and I am in a giving mood I thought I would hold a Special Auction for my fellow NEFFERS. Here is the deal: I have a Granger Victory 8ft 6 inch Bamboo Fly Rod and custom Bill Ballan reel that I will auction off for Christmas, I will sell only 100 raffle tickets and each one is $20.00 dollars with a limit of 2 per person. The raffle will go forward only If I reach a 100 tickets. The winner gets the rod and the reel. I will post pictures of Both later on today. The Rod is in very good condition: Its a Goodwin Granger Bamboo fly rod with original Rod Tube and all sectiond equal length. A slight fishing set in the tips and some light alligatoring on the varnish. Grangers are considered a piece of Bamboo Angling History. the Bill Ballan Reel is a number 5 Trout and matches very well to the Granger. I picked these up over the last few months. I have been back and forth on what I wanted to do with them. Proceeds will be split as follows. 25% will go to Dennis Cabarle to help him maintain the site. 25% will go to Project healing waters. 50% will go to me for the cost of the rod and reel. I am gauging interest at this point. So if you would be interested in the raffle just thank this post. 20 bucks wins you a great bamboo rod and reel and you can contribute to 2 great causes. If not enough Interest by end of the weekend the raffle will not go forward. If there is enough interest I will post instructions on how to enter. Peace out

20 AMERICAN dollars?!?

I must've read your post wrong...

I suggest you "gauge the interest" through next week. Not everyone lives on this site over the weekend like we do.

Good point and yeah its 20 bucks for 2 good causes. so I will extend to Friday the 17th.

A nice rod and reel for two good causes, I'll be in for the limit of two.
I may do my own raffle for a similiar cause in the future,
Hope it works out but you may have to carry this on to sell 100 tickets.
Hope it works :thumb:

Thanks Ron

I like the idea of supporting the site because its been a place to go to and talk about flyfishing, get advice, and I have been fortunate to meet up with a few folks to go and fish with. Funy story, Dennis and I practically grew up together at the local skating rink and I was on this site for the longest time without realizing Dennis owned. Its been good to hook up with Dennis again after so many years. I sincerely hope we can get enough folks to join and I appreciate your willingness to purchase a couple of tickets. I may have to extend as I am really just putting an artificial date on this anyway. There is really no rush. Let see how we do by the end of the week. Project healing waters is a cause near and dear to me since it directly impacts veterans returning from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. So folks if there are any concerns that make you hesitant to get in on this raffle please let me know and I will do my best to address them.

I don't think this so called "auction" can pass the smell test.

Wouldn't be surprised if you had to send your money to a PO Box in Lagos, Nigeria or some place in Pennsy.

I would participate in this venture, I have donated more to far less worthy causes.

Yes, where i come from we are called philan... bena.... i mean good deed doers..........

Wow 400 veiws and only 2 people willing to put up 20 dollars for a chance to win a fine rod and reel and support two worthy causes!
One this forum which if your viewing your useing and supporting Project Healing Waters,
About Project Healing Waters
I was lucky enough to spend some time guiding some of our disabled Veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan this summer.
We spent a couple of days on the willow and beaverkill. For these Veterans that served our country to be able to attempt to fly fish
after some devastating injuries was an unbelievable experence and achevement for these guys. Their perserverence and heart were incredible as were their desire to do the basic funtions as wading and casting we all take for granted. I believe I learned more about the spirt and dedication of our Veterans than they learned from me. I was truly lucky to be able to be a part of their experience
and I thank them for showing me that you can acheive anything that you set your mine to.
A special Thanks to our Veterans and the organizations and individuals that support them.:thumb:

What am I, chopped liver? ;)

But with the lack of participants goes a myth, huh? "Down and Outta Staters have money to throw around". :)
I mean if a woodchuck like me can pony up some cash for a good cause...

Well I'm happy you are in on the raffle. If you thank the original post you will be in the original count

I thought that I thanked "this post" in my initial post to this thread. Now, the other three "users say thank you to Macfly...", but let's not quibble. :) We need to try to get some of those flatlanders with the fat wallets to throw what amounts to a weeks worth of Starbucks coffee, toward helping those that have helped them. What's twenty bucks? And they might walk away with something they've always wanted...

Does winning a bamboo rod automatically get one into the "snobs with cane rods" club? Or is there an extra fee for that? I'll have to start saving up for that if neccessary.

<O:p</O:p

If you want to make a donation to any worthy cause, send it directly to that cause.

Don't wrap it around someone who wants to unload a fly rod for Christ sake.

What a bunch of Bozo's<O:p</O:p

Hey, AKScrooge,
You are "a fragment of an under-done potato"

Wait, that's Marley... either way.

This is the funniest thread in quite some time. This dude is trying to unload an old worthless rod for a good cause!!!! Go ak skim.

Let's see...

A bamboo rod maker says it's a fine rod and reel.

Golden Beetle says the rod is old and worthless...

hmmm....

AK says jump! GB says "yeah, jump!"

Quite a funny thread, indeed.

The Picture above is of the Granger Victory Bamboo Fly Rod. I bought it at an estate sale. Here is a link to a site that talks about Granger Bamboo Rods.
Fishing and Collecting the Oldies, Goodwin Granger and Wright and McGill Rod Companies- Part 99- week 128.
I realize not everyone may be familiar wit the Granger name so this article may be helpful. There are other sites as well that provide some background and history on the Granger Bamboo Fly rod.
I will get a picture of the Bill Ballan reel as soon as possible. A few folks have asked me if I want to sell this outfit. I will only consider that if we are unable to pull the raffle off. I would prefer to have the raffle and donate some money to a couple of good causes but if that's not possible I will let you know if I plan to sell it separately.

Regards
Macfly

Macfly, I really think it would be more appropriate for you to express your displeasure with my posts in public, instead of sending me private messages.

Golden Beetle I realize you would prefer a public spectacle but Im not going to do that. I have addressed it to you personally and in private. I have done this twice now. I see no reason to have a back and forth with you in public.

Macfly, i prefer the exchange to be public because, well, you come across as a serious asshole in private and your rants would be funny for everybody to read, instead of just me having the privilege.

lol you guys are to much and somebody just be nice guys trying to get rid of a nice rod and reel combo and donate half of the raffle money for a couple cause's its cool 100 tickets is 2000 bucks is the rod and reel worth a 1000 bucks lol i dont know but for 20 dollars does it break the bank lol i would throw 20 in if i didnt just close on my house last week

Ok trout fever. I will try to be nice. I think the granger is probably a great rod. I would be interested to know how much Mac paid for it at the estate sale. Seems fair to ask that, no? I'm pretty sure that bill ball an reels are available now for half price, which means you can probably get them for about 250 bucks or so.

I think macfly's motives are pure here, I also understand the skepticism, if it results in some money being raised for a couple worthy causes that is a good thing. Understanding the skepticism, my hopes are that macfly wouldn't be trying to personaly profit from a fund raiser. That being said my cheap ass hasn't donated 1cent to this site yet. But, Christmas is comming........
