The King Salmon is a fish of LEGEND.
And it is the fish that makes legends of anglers skilled enough to catch one on the fly.
A WILD KING IS THE TOP GAME FISH IN THE WORLD OF FLY FISHING.
It is the most aggressive and most powerful of fish.
And to take one is a true achievement.
Today I can say that I am one of only a handful of anglers to have caught a wild KING SALMON.
ON THE FLY.
Before my trip, I decided to tie up a few of BHC's most effective SPEY FLY PATTERNS.
And while BHC has a reputation for catching subpar fish (let's face it, he ain't no Aaron Jasper), everyone agrees that his flies are amongst the most beautifully tied flies in the world.
Here's one that produced for me in British Columbia yesterday...

But let me tell the whole story...
From the beginning.
I arrived in Vancouver on Thursday morning.
And I immediately met up with a friend who agreed to put me up for the week in his beautiful summer home...
AT NO COST TO THE LEGENDARY BEETLE.
A log cabin.
With a refrigerator stocked full of beer...
But, of course, I drank a bit too much...
And the next morning I found myself...
Hungover on the boat...
But nonetheless..
Chasing kings...
IT WAS A DATE OF DESTINY.
BEETLE AND THE KING SALMON WOULD MEET.
FOR THE FIRST TIME.
LEGENDS WOULD SEE EACH OTHER.
EYE TO EYE.
But...
You might say that Beetle...
Mooched one beer too many...
The night before the ship set sail...
IN PURSUIT OF THE LEGENDARY KING SALMON!
That's me barfing off the side of the boat.
Just about 30 minutes after we set sail.
But, of course, I toughed it out.
And cast my flies in to the wind.
My flies tore through the breeze like lasers.
Zoning in on their target: THE LEGENDARY KING SALMON!!
IN all, I managed to take 6 KINGS TO NET.
Here is A BEAUTIFUL FISH.
A trophy KING.
Caught by BEETLE.
Who no longer can be denied.
The status of LEGENDARY ANGLER...
