Tied up a few of these today as the weather didn't cooperate for the original plans. This is a Black Ranger tied on a 3/0 Partridge blind eye hook. This fly was first tied by James Wright in the mid 1800's and was a popular feather wing pattern of the time.:)

Absolutely beautiful. I would never fish that fly. I'd put that in a shadow box and proudly display it. Very nice.

Thank you guy's !! DC I don't use these flies either just enjoy the challenge of tying them and seeing the final results.I use the speys and streamers I tie and have a lot of fun with them. There is something special about taking fish with them as they work just as well now as they did when they were first tied many years ago.

Hi Allen

Very nice looking fly. The red feather on top of the golden pheasent crest, think about the close pin technique to crumple/naturall ripple the feather a bit. This can be seen on Mike Radincich DVD on building the Jock Scott step by step. I was looking at this an tried one out the other day. It really dresses up that feather a bit and allows it to sit a little sturdier/locked on top appearance.. The fly looks great and I am just offerring a suggestion to think about. The fly should be ones own interpretation from the tyer and in this case looks great. Just wanted to provide a little food for thought for you to maybe experiment with.

Sincerely
Andy Brasko

Thank you for the information Andy I'll give it a shot next time I tie one of these up. I'll have to put clothespins on the Christmas list as I don't have any I hear they make a great stocking stuffer.
