Who fishes with a Hornberg fly pattern?

I heard that when it was first developed fly fisherman wanted it banned.

On a 3x hook #10, fish it on a larger or smaller hook as well?

Some fish it as a wet fly, I also understand it could be fished as a dry.

Dead drift or on the swing?

Anyone ever fish it as a night time pattern for that big brown trout? If so any luck with it?

It's been two or three years since I last fished one, and haven't done so regularly for at least 15. That's more to do with the fact that I haven't gotten around to tying any than to the effectiveness of the fly.

I've fished them from size 6 to 10; both wet and dry. I've caught fish both ways. And when I used to fish nights for browns, back in the early 80's, it was my fly of choice. (On the swing at night.) Fished dry, I always assumed it was a moth pattern, and fished it actively.

It's a surprisingly good pattern.

I have fished this fly since I took up fly fishing. Its a very productive fly.

I fished on New Years Day this year , and the gent I was fishing with took a beautiful brook trout on a Hornberg fished dry. It was the only trout caught that day.

Great fly and post

I have fished with a Hornberg, never caught anything with it, sure i was doing something stupid.....

Love this fly. Fish larger ones as streamers and also fish it dry, twitching it across the surface to resemble a caddie. One of my top five flies.
