Got on the water at 9. Cloudy and a hint of rain seemed to be workin for those fish today.

Did a bit of walkin to get where I wanted to fish and had to wade across the river to work it right. The spot I cross in usually gives up a fish or two but today I decided to slow it down and work it all in a grid. 7 fish later I made it to the other side. Not a bad start.

3 small rainbows, 1 smallish wild brown, 2 slabs which I managed to break off not realizing what I had and one hoss rainbow I played right and got landed.

Once I got across I made a single drift through a deep run that is usually loaded w/fish but hasn't turned up anything yet this year... ANOTHER tank of a rainbow hammers the hares ear. This one comes right up with no where to go and almost beaches himself. I've got the rod doubled over behind my shoulders, left arm extended allll the way, about to make the scoop and the fly let's go. Rigs 40ft up in a tree, the fish is rollin off the end of the net and I of coarse loss my shit and go in for the third time this year.

kept inside the waders dry though so that one doesn't count. Got where I wanted to be, rerigged and it didn't let up. Again I lost a nice fish at the net, this time almost straightening the hook on an SOS. Whatever.

Oh before that I had... U guessed it, another nice one on and he managed to stick my top fly into something tryin to get under rocks and almost cost me another rig...hmmmmm, that's prolly where I bent that 2487. Whatever.

A few more in the net, a few more misses and almost a double then it just stopped. The sun was high, the clouds were gone and the fish disappeared.

barfed up two more riggs back to back (fuck I hate that!) and called it a day.

thank you Shannon's for some QUALITY fish. Each of those bigger rainbows had me sayin "are you fuckin kiddin me". Thnx again

Just wait until they grow large ;)

Just ask any club members that stock Vern's Kamloops rainbows what happens when they start getting over 17". You're going to need more rigs.:)

Im hoping they will wake up this evening after it gets cloudy, weather models don't show rain starting till 7...

Sun,

heheheeheh.

Our club loves those vern bows ;)

Brian, when Im home next youll have to come up and fish with my pops and I. The river is WHOLE NEW river after the stream work was done.

I was there during the restoration, but never fished it afterward. Would love to take you up on that offer, Chris. If just to see how the springs entering our deep holes worked out for the trout. We're targeting the first big dam upstream of your dad's club which will improve summer temps if/when that is removed. And there is now an official effort to remove the Columbia Lake dam at the lower river near the mouth to the Delaware which will set up an immediate American shad run each spring into your waters.

Glad to hear folks are catching plenty of fish in the Gorge as well. It is only 4 months into being a no-kill, so time will tell how effective that new reg is in growing bigger trout.

Im gonna try and get out of work a little early and head there... If anyone wants to join me speak up!! I would like to get there 4:30ish

Yes..the gorge is on fire....plenty of fish, and they are eating well... I was out Monday, only saw two splashy rises though, all sub-surface....caddis and midges and craneflies....lost the same slob in the same spot from the week before....next week that fish is mine:).....

heres one from today Thurst. yeeeesh!

any idea what's goin on with this poor bastard?

Fished from 8 to 3:15 today and would prolly get laughed off the board if I posted how well it went.

highlights were two wild browns n a wild brookie that was just gorgeous (pun intended). I managed a first today also. I hooked a good fish that was kickin my ass all up n down the place in a show of strength that, even though he was respectable, did not match his size. After scrambling downstream a 3rd time he pulled into an eddy for a breather and I saw the big brown he had in tow on the bottom fly! They sat still for me n filled the net to the top!! I've hooked doubles before and it never works out, to get two in the net is awesome in and of itself but two nice ones?!? No f in way!! Best part was I had a friend watching the whole thing...freagin awesome.

picked the boys up from the dentist at 4:30, ran em up there and let them stick a few of those big bows and get broke off like there ol man.
There is no consoling those kids when a fish is lost its hysterical to watch, the more I laugh the madder they get...I'm a bad dad;)

shitty pic but I'm sure this was a wild fish. Sure fought like it, had the blue spot on the gill plate and a red/orange tipped top fin.

I was also at the gorge this past Tuesday. Landed 12 fish and lost a bunch. Highlights of the day were an 18 rainbow and an even bigger brown. All fish were beautiful and full of attitude.

I don't know what the deal is w/pics. Sometimes they show for awhile and disappear and sometimes they stick.

its hit or miss. Seems to only happen when I post from my phone. Can't use the laptop because some douche broke into my house Easter Sun and stole my MacBook Pro!!

Only spent two hours in the water, managed two in the 16" range which, given my self perceived novice status, I will take!!!

Rusty, what's the deal with the lesions on the bow that SSA posted?

Doesn't look like furunculosis, but the best bet is to keep a plastic bag in your vest, kill that fish (after calling the Lebanon Fisheries Lab because it's in the no-kill and that # is 908-236-2118) and then transport it to the Lab if you can for analysis. That said, I have seen this on a few rainbows over the years and never knew what it was. Now that we have furunculosis in our hatchery fish, I'd be more inclined to hold that fish in my net and make some calls unless on general regs waters where killing it is perfectly legal. I figure that if I reach our fisheries pathologist (who is at Pequest, not Lebanon and that # is 908-637-4125) or a fisheries biologist in the Lebanon Lab, they are going to want to take a closer look at that fish and could help an angler through any issues with the no-kill. Maybe they send out a CO, who knows. Either way, it's probably a good idea to store those phone #s just in case since we are dealing with something of an unknown in our local waters right now.

As a follow up to my last post, I forwarded the picture to the Division's regional fisheries biologist and fisheries pathologist. I also asked them if I gave out good advice or if something else should be done "just in case" when an angler catches a potentially diseased fish in one of our two new No-Kill stretches. If I caught this fish in general regs waters, I would have killed it myself without a thought and gotten it to the pathologist who's lab is at the Pequest Hatchery in Oxford. But that's only during a weekday as the lab is closed weekends.

I'll let you know what advice I get from them.

Rusty, a friend caught that one yesterday and he also sent in pics and spoke with the state biologist. He said they authorized him to kill any fish like that and get it to them.

If you catch the douche in your house again. Hold him for a bit and call me so I can help you kick his ass.
