Got on the water at 9. Cloudy and a hint of rain seemed to be workin for those fish today.
Did a bit of walkin to get where I wanted to fish and had to wade across the river to work it right. The spot I cross in usually gives up a fish or two but today I decided to slow it down and work it all in a grid. 7 fish later I made it to the other side. Not a bad start.
3 small rainbows, 1 smallish wild brown, 2 slabs which I managed to break off not realizing what I had and one hoss rainbow I played right and got landed.
Once I got across I made a single drift through a deep run that is usually loaded w/fish but hasn't turned up anything yet this year... ANOTHER tank of a rainbow hammers the hares ear. This one comes right up with no where to go and almost beaches himself. I've got the rod doubled over behind my shoulders, left arm extended allll the way, about to make the scoop and the fly let's go. Rigs 40ft up in a tree, the fish is rollin off the end of the net and I of coarse loss my shit and go in for the third time this year.
kept inside the waders dry though so that one doesn't count. Got where I wanted to be, rerigged and it didn't let up. Again I lost a nice fish at the net, this time almost straightening the hook on an SOS. Whatever.
Oh before that I had... U guessed it, another nice one on and he managed to stick my top fly into something tryin to get under rocks and almost cost me another rig...hmmmmm, that's prolly where I bent that 2487. Whatever.
A few more in the net, a few more misses and almost a double then it just stopped. The sun was high, the clouds were gone and the fish disappeared.
barfed up two more riggs back to back (fuck I hate that!) and called it a day.
thank you Shannon's for some QUALITY fish. Each of those bigger rainbows had me sayin "are you fuckin kiddin me". Thnx again
